Ok guys, I just got a "new" Kubota GL-6500s generator which has 850+ hours on it. That's a liquid cooled Diesel engine. The oil has been changed about every 100 hours it looks like, 150 is what is recommended. The only oil that has ever been in it is Kubota oil 30w or 10w30 not sure what it is. Anyway, I'm thinking about putting Mobil 1 10w30 in it since that's easier to come by here (I'm betting the cost is about the same too), anybody have any opinions on my plan.... good, bad, should I use something else? I've thought about Delo 400 15w40 since that's what's going in the truck the generator is going to be mounted on (and several other vehicles I have) but Kubota recommends 30w for some reason.

My Kubota tractors really like the Amsoil Series 3000 5w30. Smooth running and easy to crank. If you want to try Mobil, go with their Truck&SUV 5w-40 oil. It's noisier than the Amsoil, but it's cheaper at $20 for a 5-quart jug at Wal-Mart.
Hello Wasuchi, I have a Kubota RTV900R. I bought it in october of 2004. I bought it as a demo at a demo price. It was used in a parade and for test drives. It had 9.7 hours on it. I bought it from a dealer in the next town over from Vassar. I did not have a trailer at the time, so I was just gonna drive it home. Well the dealer delivered it to my house the same day for free. Which was awesome. I drove it off the trailer and I drove it around alittle bit to make sure everything was good and to warm it up. Well I put .3 hours on it and pulled up to the garage. I lifted the box up and pull the filter and plug. My salesman who I bought it from was still in my garage shooting the breeze when I did the first oil change at 10.0 hours. Me and my salesman both learned that the manual was wrong. It stated that the crankcase took 2.1 quarts with a filter change. Well it took three and a half quarts of Mobil 1 0W-40 with a new oem Kubota filter to put it at the full line. We were talking about this when he noticed that I used Mobil 1 0W-40. He stated that Kubota states that your not to use a syn lube in any of their equipment. He said it even says it in my manual. I was like first of all Kubota uses Kubota Super UDT in all their transmissions and hydro's as factory fill. And I told him that Kubota Super UDT is a syn. So I more less told him that he did not know what the **** he was talking about. I also requested that he show me in my manual where it states not to use a syn lube. He couldn't. Thats because now where in the manual did it say when to or when not to use a syn lube. It did not even mention not to use a conventional oil til the engine is broke-in. He said that it would cause my engine to consume and leak oil. I changed the oil and filter along wiith all the other fluids at 50.0 hours. I changed the oil and filter again at 100.0 hours and every 100.0 hours after that. It now as about five hours short of 600.0 hours on it. All I have used is Mobil 1 0W-40 and oem Kubota filter. It never used a drop of oil. Or leaked any oil from anywhere. I choose this oil because of the temps we see here in Michigan. And also I choose it because it is the same oil use as factory in Jeep's CRD's used in the KJ's, AKA the Liberty. I have never had a problem with my choose and have not seen any reason to discontinue the use of it. I also want to say that I am planning on starting to perform used oil analysis to see how everything is doing and to see if I can go longer on oil drains. I will post my used oil analysis on here. And I will keep you guys updated on my findings.

Thanks JR, I think I have read your post somewhere else the other day and it sounds like everything is working great for you. I'm going to start using Mobil 1 Truck and SUV as soon as it's available again, might use the 0w-40 if that doesn't happen pretty soon. I just want to make sure this engine lasts a long time and is really clean inside since I already know how much parts are for anything that's orange!
Right now it seems to be in good shape and has been well taken care of.
