What about changing your clothes into your business attire at work and walking in light clothing with shorts and sports shoes.

The 1.2 miles is that 0.6 miles to and from work. If it is then do your part for global warming and sustainability.
 
Most weekdays, bunch of us walk almost 2 miles during our lunch break. It takes about half an hour at comfortable pace. We do this in our work clothes. My commute is 30+30 miles every week day.

You are living in Florida. You really have no excuse for not walking to work.
 
A thought: Its 1948, not many own a car, buses still run everywhere, its hot, no air-conditioning in most businesses, I bet someone was sweating back then,,probably was not even talked about, different time zone yes, its all about whats important. We are a spoiled society, PS I like hvac.................
