People always have assumed that the reason Honda wants you to keep the factory fill oil in for the duration of a full OCI is to increase engine life but there is more to it than engine life. We all know that the factory fill oil is loaded with moly and one of the actions of moly is to decrease friction and therefore heat. By doing this, it helps seat rings better because the pistons are gliding more efforlessly and hence seating the rings in a truer sense. This will lead to less oil loss and less top ups. Moly is also good at dulling or polishing metal thus leading to less scuffing and a truer glove to hand fit with engine parts especially pistons and bearings. I have had a long long discussion with a Honda engineer about this issue and the above is how he explained it. He even said that by decreasing friction, it is beneficial for seals which at the beginning of their life are a little more rigid and need to be broken in, by reducing heat/friction, you reduce the chance of "micro fractures" in the seals as well.
