Oh yeah, I did state that, that's why I tore it down. Looks really pretty in there, huh?! Ugh.

This is my dilemma. Slowly clean, or use something and possible dislodge?

Chad, have you seen this thread from another forum? The guy bought a jeep that needed lots of TLC, and the engine was badly sludged. He ended up using Gunk engine cleaner with good results. I have heard that the Amsoil Engine Cleaner is the least aggressive cleaner on the market, that might be worth a try.

The pics of the gunked up engine are about halfway down the page.

I'd stick with slow cleaning, especially if the engine is running fairly well now. A big chunk of goop falling off and getting in the wrong spot will destroy the engine.

I agree which is one of the reasons why I really like MMO. It also does a great job of dissolving garbage so the filter can filter it out of the oil.

If I understand your original post, you have ordered the Auto RX, so go ahead and use it with confidence. Dino for the RX period will not hurt anything. The car didn't require synthetic from the factory, did it?

BUT: based on your photos, I suggest not adding the Auto RX when you first fill the engine. After you put it back together, add a fresh change of dino and run the engine until it gets hot. Then drain the oil, change the filter, and add new oil and your RX. I have always done a flush like this after opening an engine to antifreeze or a lot of junk (like your intake removal).

Are you changing the supercharger oil while the engine is apart? There was a discussion about that on here several years ago. I think GM dealers will carry that often-overlooked fluid. I'm not sure if there are any substitutes.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes.
