new heater core while dash is out?

If you're paying someone to do it, have them purchase the replacement core so that they are on the hook for the warranty. don't bring your own part, as they will likely not warranty it for labor should it fail.

Also, do NOT run a ground strap to it as suggested above. That will introduce a ground which allows galvanic corrosion to occur.

I just had them do the a.c. not the heater core.

Penny wise and dollar foolish. I would take a new (name brand) aftermarket core anyday over a ten year old original core since the dash is already removed. The OEM cores likely are built by the same major aftermarket company.I hope it works out for you.
