New G-Oil- Worth trying?

Interested in trying the Green Earth Technologies (G-Oil) full synthetic since there is a rebate for a free 5 qt. jug. A couple of questions- Even thought it is a full synthetic, how long should your OCI's be? Also, do you feel that it is safe to run? Haven't heard much about it but on Amazon it has 24- 5 star reviews. Your opinions?

I went to their web site. It seems legit as a quality oil. Most of the stuff BITOGers would care about is under their FAQ section. It is SM rated. It has good numbers for flash point and pour point. I would like to know NOACK and how it handles fuel dilution before using it in our 2.4L DI Equinox's engine. I will for sure try it in the Vibe, though. And maybe the Equinox if I can get those numbers before it is due for an OC. Maybe I'll email them.

I have had it in my 05 Ford Explorer 4.0 SOHC for about a week and so far so good. Engine is as quiet and smooth as ever.

We've seen time and time again on this site that pretty much any API-certified oil is absolutely sufficient for 99% of street-driven cars. Even the cheap Wal-Mart SuperTech stuff works fine.

I'd say use it.

Im just curious to know since this is an Ester based oil, do all ester based oils break down (recycle wise)the same is this G oil? If an oil is derived from a plant source you would think it would? The rest could just be marketing hype??

There is a lot of hype involved. The G-Oil biodegrades faster than "regular" synthetic, but all motor oil degrades eventually. And you still have to dispose of the used G-Oil just like any other motor oil.

The other thing that G.E.T. is downplaying is the biological source of their bio-based oil. It's not plant based, it's from animal fats. In other words, if someone is against fur and leather, they probably want to stick with regular oil.

I'm also taking advantage of the rebate and I've got over 1000 miles on the stuff. It still looks like it did the day I put it in. The big question: is it worth the regular price of $26?

I emailed them asking about if they are going to be SN and GF-5 soon. I also asked about NOACK and fuel dilution. They didn't answer the last two, and only said it is SM until the company officially announces it is SN (but didn't say for sure when, or if, they would do so).

I'm not happy with the reply I got. Almost nothing bothers me more than asking more than one question in an email and the respondent not answering all of them. So I asked again the two questions that didn't get answered. We'll see what they say.

Unless I see a used oil analysis that shows otherwise, I'll probably run it 6,000 - 7,500 miles just like I run other synthetics. Now, in saying that, you bet I'm going to be keeping my eyes peeled for used oil analysis and BITOG members use this stuff and post their used oil analysis.

I bought mine today. I'm going to do a 10,000 mile oci and then a used oil analysis.

The price is right, so I picked up a jug. I'll probably just use it for top-offs and lawn equipment, but for free oil, I really can't complain. Can't be any worse than regular conventional oil IMHO.
