Fram XG6607.

It's a perfect filter with no weaknesses.

The ADBV is 100% hermetic.

One of the end plates has a seal which works great.

A flashlight test shows that the seal is perfect.

The filter medium area is about 440-450 sq. cm.

Thanks. This is one of the few that don’t have the leak. I see it has the seal on the end cap that prevents the leak but was later deleted from production. This has the non wire backed media which has shown to tear. It’s hard to see but date code looks like 2021 278th day.

It's has been sitting around for a few years. The filter medium feels a bit flimsy despite being quite thick of 0.6 mm. The thickness partially comes from the fluffy material which doesn't provide any strength.

Reactions: GW.
It's "kind of" an OG Ultra (leaf spring seal and holes in center tube). The date code looks to be A1271 (?) which would be the 271st day of 2001. It doesn't have the OG wire backed pink media, and instead the newer media.

The leaf spring stamping looks pretty ratty for an OG, but the leaf spring portion that sits down inside the center tube should still seal on the ID of the fiber ring even if the leaf spring is ruffled ... that's why you didn't see any light leakage.

How could you cut it? It is a collector's item no more will be made.

I have 2 more. And I wanted to see how long I can run them. Normally I run filters at least for 25000 km. I doubt it's safe for these filters and I am going to cut it to 12500 km or less.

Interesting date code... this filter isn't from 2001, though. I'm not even sure it would've been an Xtended Guard back in 2001. I assume you already know it isn't actually 2001, though, and I'm just missing something.

Yeah, it should be 2021 not 2001. Must have been close to when Fram started using the non-wire backed media.

Fram is out of business due to its parent company First Brands going bankrupt.

First Brands, owner of Fram, went bankrupt. The plants were shuttered. There are threads here.
Another company has offered to purchase the Fram name and plants. The sale is awaiting approval by the bankruptcy court and the US Gov.

Oh crap, so i need to stock up now on any remaining stock i can find 😲

I did just this. Bought out Rock Auto and the local Walmart. For whatever reason, Fram filters were the quietist option I could find for my 4.0 in my Jeep. Oddly enough, my dad’s 4.0 as well as my parts Jeep couldn’t care less.

My local Walmart has none but next week i will be visiting a far away city which apparently has 8 in stock, i will grab them all.
Local Canadian Tire has some stock and others do to, not sure how many to stock up on, 20 year old car but hope to keep for many more years.

Been able to find 7 so far, the stores had some more but they have a plastic screen inside that looks very flimsy, i only bought those with metal grating inside as shown in the first pic above.
Not sure i want to even risk the plastic one.
