New engine, oil mix

Ok I was just reading the post about mixing oils and I'm a little nervous. I had 12 oz of Valvoline 5w30 conventional left over from my MTD oil change. I bought a new SS blower and I took 8 oz of NAPA 5w30 and added it to the 12 oz Valvoline conventional and filled the new engine, since they both are 5w30 and also both made by Ashland this shouldn't be the bad should it?

How ever this is the break in oil and will be in there for I think 2 hours. I've only let it run for a few seconds so now would be the time to redo it.

I normally don't like mixing different add packs. But in your case you picked the next closest match possible to Valvoline conventional....NAPA regular. It's probably the same stuff too, just different packaging. Both are sodium add packs. I'd have no problems mixing them.

Now mixing a sodium add pack with a magnesium add pack (Mobil) wouldn't be near as ideal.

I'm anti-mixing, but I generally don't worry for outdoor power equipment. In fact, that's where I do put my stragglers.

The fuel system is going to be the biggest weakness, anyhow, and the oil will never be your limiting factor. If you're doing even annual changes, you're very likely not taking your oil out to its limits in any event.

The biggest concerns I have with mixing (aside from my general paranoia) is that I don't want to damage the cold weather pumpability of the oil, which really isn't an issue even with OPE (at least not quite in the same way as a normal system with an oil pump) or I wouldn't want to be playing around if I were trying M1 for 10,000 miles or Mobil 1 Extended Performance for 15,000 miles, or something similar, which clearly isn't an issue with OPE, either.

I wouldn't worry about Napa 5w30 and Valvoline 5w30 conventional much at any time, really. My blower gets whatever is handy. Two years ago, it went from Max Life 5w30 to RP 0w-40, simply based on what quarts I had lying around.
