My parents just picked up a Chevy Cruze a few days ago. My dad told me the sump size is 4.25 quarts. I thought that was pretty small for a Ecotec. Most of the Ecotec's I have worked on in the past had a sump size of 5 quarts or more. I know it's only a 1.4L displacement. I would assume with this car speced for dexos1. It will have a OLM oci of around 10K.

I don't know if I would like to keep the oil in your engine for that amount of time. It's a small engine with a turbo on it. It also has to lug around a 3300 pound car.

What are your guys take on this?

I'd run an off the shelf syn like PP, Syntec, M1, Synpower, etc, and trust the OLM. 4.25 quarts is plenty for that engine.

Man that's small. The Jetta 2.0L non turbo takes 4.3 qrts. My Tacoma takes 6 with a larger filter.

If it makes you feel better my 5.7l is 5 qts. And to think it has 1/4 million miles at 5,000 OCI with conventional pulling trailers and [censored] in the TX heat. You'll be ok

+1

Well, my parents' 74 Suburban was just fine with a 5 qt sump on its 454. It was running fine at 150,000 mi when a semi clipped the front of it in a snowstorm and sent my Mom roof-first down a hill. We were grateful that Mom was ahead of her time with use of the lap belt.

The difference in oil sumps is not much compared to the size of engines. 4 cylinders and V-8s 4-5 qts on a lot of them. 6 qts on some of the V-8s.

Like I said if worried run a synthetic and don't sweat it.

Synthetic Dexos1 is REQUIRED for this engine.

Is the Cruze really 3,300 pounds? That sounds heavy for that size/market niche.

The curb weight is actually 3102.

I think I will have my parents change out the FF @ 1500 miles, and not reset the OLM. Then do the next oci when the OLM goes off.

The car is a lot bigger in person. The reviews do state that the engine is to small for it's weight. It seemed fast enough on the test drive. My dad doesn't drive over 55 mph, so he doesn't have anything to worry about.
