I am hoping to change the oil in the next little bit.

I am leary and unsure of the new E-Core filters.

Has anyone used the new 3387,PF-47 version of this filter and if so,have they cut one open?

I know that some versions seemed to have some trouble at first with the endcaps maybe not sealing well.

What does everyone think about using the e-core?

Hi,

I'm been using the ecore on a PT Cruiser and Chev V8 (4.8l) with great results.

The Filters when cut open look great and everyting is in place.

For $2, no reason to get anything else.

I have cut one open, a ST 3387. I'm pleased they fixed the redundant ADBV, it seems like a decent filter, but I have not dug too deep into it. I don't use them however, Purolators work great for me.

I've got the ST3980 E-core, and so far no problems. My start ups were quiet right from the start of using the E-core. I am trying it with my first ARX flush, so it will come off after 1500 miles. I am going to cut it open and see how it looks inside. You should be able to use the ST3980, it's just a little longer then the PF47, which makes it equivalent to a PF52.

On my second ST 3614, very happy. Oil pressure is normal and no startup noise. Cut open the first one after 6 months and 5000 miles of use and it was in excellent shape. Pleats, endcaps and the rubber drainback valve were fine. Will continue to use.

I'm using ST3614's right now. The one I cut open after 3,400 miles and a month of use show'd no signs of anything alarming.

Just picked up one of the F.A.R. STP 3387a's from Autozone last night. Haven't put it in the Buick yet. Hey-- the price was right, even if the stinking mail-in rebate doesn't work.

An e-core is an e-core regardless of brand, right? All specs are the same?

Looked at an STP oil filter today,it is the E-Core design.

I think the thread had metal shaving(s).It was a rather large piece,it was quite easy to see.

It was located at the beginning of the thread as it would attach to the engine.

I cant remember if it was the 3387A version or the 3980,I looked at both.
