I have always wondered if you bought a new car did a couple of oil changes to flush out the break in wear ,then running a favorite Syn oil with out ever changing the oil, I would do the filter and top off as needed and other required maintenance. How many miles would the engine last???

My 07 fit was bought brand-spanking new and immediatly, I changed it out with Crraaapy Tires Mortalmaster 5W20 full syn oil with a new HAMP oil filter.

I don't buy that so-called mysterious Honda break in oil nor am I worry about full syn being too "slick" for proper engine breaking in. So far, I have clocked 6,900kms to date and no oil burning, no signs of oil consumption, no nothing.

An engine that is known to consume oil starting from day one (especially those that are manufactured nowadays) may not get better due to faulty assembly or design; new car(engine) straight from the factory w/o any oil consumption issues shall have their engines properly broken in already and one shall not need to go apes over break-in processs (the lot-boy/delivery boy/carwash boy or even a sneaky salesman who takes new car out to pick up lunch shall have sufficiently done the full break-in part for you already, LOL!).

I shall stay with full or semi-syn for my fit and will go for another 2 decades ...then I might switch to something else...

Q.

p.s.new factory manufactured engines shall last just as long, covering many, many miles as whether you follow the oldschool break in process or not (already broken in, remember?) In other words: your engine shall typically outlasts your A/T gearbox and your chassis/body for the latter tends to go bad/rust away before you engine goes, granted that you take good care of them. Mileage , in this case, shall easily exceeds 200,000miles...

Note to self. DO NOT buy a used vehicle from Steve S

. Seriously a lot would depend upon your driving circumstances and the oil used. But no oil will last forever even with "refreshening". Sooner or later you're going to have a total breakdown of the lubrication and engine protection of the oil. How many miles? Who knows

Really need some specifics: What kinda filter you runnin'? And what color is your car?
But I estimate it would run the full lifetime of the engine.

Okay I give up. What oil & filter are you using? Motorcraft / Fram?

HAMP Synergy oil filter, made by Tokyo Roki Japan.

This is the highest grade HOnda aftermarket oil filter that can be had from Honda dealers all across Japan:

With revised filter media, silicone ADBV and what-not, this one betters the factory HOnda (filtech).

It is also proportedly used by HKS as a rebranded oil filter under the HKS line.

Q.

as for oil, I'm using Canadian Tire Motomaster full syn (gold jug) 5W20 at this moment.

How long will we stay in the air?

Oh, I think that we'll surely make it to the crash site ..maybe a bit beyond.

I remember seeing a picture of an open engine from a car that came in for its 30K service at the dealer. The oil was obviously never changed and looked like Grade 1 grease. I believe it was from a BMW that used synthetic oil in its factory fill.

A brand new car as an experiment .I couldn't do that to any piece of machinery I owned . I tried to do it on my lawn mower but I changed the oil.

I've often wondered this exact same thing! :) I've also been known to mention that if I ever won the lottery I'd do all kinds of crazy oil experiments just like this one! Tonight's jackpot is $16 million, so that would be more than enough to fund a bunch of nifty experiments. :) If I won that much money I certainly wouldn't work anymore, so I'd have to fill my time with something worthwhile. :)
