new car ..need advice

I went out a got my wife a new car. It is a 07 Chevy Impala . She will be using it on a USPS postal route. I have had no experence with the oil life moniter on these cars. Also she dives like 20miles to work and 115miles on route. I would like to use a good syn oil so I don't have to change out every month.
I don't know if I should trust the oil life moniter or what.
NEED ADVICE.

If the 07 has the 3800 engine you can use just about anything you like or is on sale. Any conventional SM rated should be good for up to 5K miles in this engine. I would start with Pennzoil conventional and a PF52 filter. Then do a used oil analysis after 5K miles or the OLM goes to zero, whichever occurs 1st, to see how its holding up.

People talk about the OLM on the GM cars alot.

Does GM say its okay to go until the OLM says to change your oil, or do they have requirements just like any other auto manufacturer X miles, X months?

It has the 3.5V6. I am not sure what I should do if I go to a SYN oil.

How should I use the OLM with Syn Oil? I know how to reset the monitor. But If I use a high quality Syn oil and change out the filter say at 5,000miles and chage all at 10k. Does this sounds right?

Amsoil XL 7500 or Penn Platinum would be my recommendation for this application. I wouldn't go congo on extended drain with that much idle time, but these two oils are tough and should provide great protection for the entire OLM interval. In this situation I would only extend beyond the OLM by the results of UOA.

use syn oil because those are severe driving conditions on a postal route. use the OLM, it's rated for dino, so with syn you will have a buffer.

Usually they say just follow the OLM unless it does not go off in x number of months.

They also usually have a more conservative interval based on time/mileage if you drive in severe service.

Does the owners manual have any info on the OLM? Did you Read the owners manual? was the car new or used? new ,it should have an owners manual .A used oil anaylsis will give a very good snapshot of how the oil is holding up in the vehicles use. syn .Do a couple of non syn oil changes to see the OLM oil change intervals work out before trying syn oil. OLM is well designed.
