yeah shoulda seen the leaves, dead bugs etc that fell out of the compartment when I opened it. Those are the original Delco filters that came with the truck rofl. I noticed a HUGE difference in flow. I can run my ac at 3 instead of 5 now. Replaced them with NAPA gold filters made in phillipenes unfortunentally. I prefer american

I use Bounce fabric softener as pre-filter. It does catch leaves, bugs, sands ... such that the cabin air filter only filters dust and it lasted much longer, up to 4-5 years. Just changed cabin filters in 2 cars after 5 years, the Bounce sheets looked very black and had some bugs while the filters were not too bad for 5 years used.

Since you drive a VW, you should order your parts from MJM Autohaus. Their prices are extremely low (often lower than most auto part stores) and a number of their items have free shipping.

I can't believe those high mileage examples. Mine look worse at 10,000 miles. I guess they're right when they say we've got the worst air quality in the nation. I do my replacement every 10k-15K or when I feel the output on high is getting lower.
I replaced my cabin air filter at 15k miles and it looked worse than I expected. It was a 2009 Subaru and I could not find an aftermarket filter so I paid close to $30 from the dealership for a new one. I did not through the old one away. It was not a HEPA type filter, it was easy to wash and clean with soap and water. I will reuse it again. The cabin air filter is one filter that to me makes a lot of sense to be washable and reusable.

If the cost of cabin filter is $30 and you can easily wash it then it's not a bad idea to re-use it after washed.
I'm in that buy-a-furnace-filter-and-cut-it-to-size camp.

Not sure if you are responding to the $10 AAP coopin being a great idea, or my purposeful incorrect spelling of the the word COUPON. The latter comes from the Ron White's Blue Collar Comedy Tour skit, "Coupons at the Fair" where he repeatedly calls them COOPINS. Very funny stuff.
As for the $10 AAP coopin on a $25 purchase, it is perfect for buying cabin filters which as I said IMO, are very overpriced. FYI, the $10 AAP coopin is only in effect till the end of this month, and will likely never be seen again. It's on the promo board.
