I've noticed that Frank has recently increased the length of the Auto-RX cleaning cycle from 1500 miles to 2500 miles. To what extent does the 1000 mile increase in the length of the cleaning cycle improve the cleaning abilities of Auto-RX?

Thanks.

My understanding is that the increase is for people who REFUSE to switch over to dino for the auto-rx phase. The increase in mileage helps with cleaning if you insist on using Synthetics.

seems like a move to get more buyers of his product with the syn crowd. if the above posts are true.

Personally, i don't get the big deal of just using conventional oil during your ARX clean/rinse phases. It's not like your engine will seize from using it for such a short amount of the vehicles overall life. I use conventional with my ARX with no ill effects. When it is over, I will switch back to synth.

Same here.

I'm using Havoline DS that I got for .69 a quart and a SuperTech oil filter and my car hasn't exploded.. yet!

I always wondered why the clean and rinse mileage were so few. Would it hurt to just run the full 5k that you would use on a normal OCI?

I've ran the cleaning phase before for 7200 miles. My engine survived. I currently have 5k+ on the rinse cycle.

I ran 3500 miles on the clean cycle with Synpower 10w30 and a PureOne on my 37k miles 1999 LeSabre. The car was definitely logy after about 3000 miles (1500 of those in a week of highway travel), with reduced fuel mileage toward the end of the interval (I keep track religiously). Not to mention the filter was extremely heavy taking it off. I think I picked too nice a filter!

Currently running the clean phase (100 miles in) with Castrol GTX and an oversize Delco filter. Fuel economy is back to where it should be.

That's my experience. Different strokes for different folks (and cars).

Well, I imagine that you need to package it conveniently. Since there's no reason not to go out to the (near) 3k mark ..and many people can identify with that mileage number ..it makes sense to raise the mileage. You can see how complicated it can get with this product. Tony put up a sticky just to cut down on the endless posting ..and it didn't skip a beat. Now Frank is probably going to have to come up with some Windows type default with added instructions for 'advanced users". Now if he states that the product has the flexibility to work slow or fast depending on this or that ..think of how many "Well, I wind my watch while driving, can I go 1243.8 miles on coal tar and then go to a shampoo rinse w/conditioner?" type questions he'd have.

It's like anything, if you go slow ..people want to go fast. If you go fast ..they want to slow down. If you want to simplify something..they want to complicate it.

Well put, Gary.

I very much stick to a 5k mile OCI. I fully understand that there are many oils that can go farther. But for my vehicles, some of which average about 10k a year, it an opportunity that get's me under the car 2x a year. I can visually check for stuff, and OCI all at the same time. So 5k mile OCIs make for a good (and easy to remember) OCI. My wife, (a vehicularly-challenged type) can even remember to tell me "it's got x5,000 miles, Honey, don't you have to do something to it????

With that in mind, my current ARX application is going 2.5k miles, and the rinse will go 2.5k miles. Easily multiplied into the 5k mile OCI.

Some people fret over the exact mileage; I don't think the performance of ARX is that picky. It works best with group II or III oils; that much we know. Because ARX works very subtlely, it's likely there is no real beginning or end to it's effect. The longer you use it, the longer it works. I would suspect that it has some type of finite life, but that's probably well past the typical application/rinse phase.

Frank has had to constantly keep up with people trying to "tinker" with the application and rinse phases. They are looking for an absolute answer to finite questions.

Do you measure your shampoo to the last milli-liter? Do you wash your hair for EXACTLY the same number of seconds each time? Do you rinse your hair for EXACTLY the same number of seconds? Do you get a clinical cleanliness analysis of your hair? At some point, we all just wash, rinse, and dry because the act of compulsive "need to know" is outweighed by the convenience of just getting "it" over with and moving on.

ARX is fantastic stuff. I am 100% convinced of it's abilities, and I now have it in several of my vehicles. But I don't sweat the small stuff; life's just too short.

It occured to me that Frank should have two application/rinse options.

Option 1: for 5k mile OCI people. Run application for 2.5k miles. Run rinse for 2.5k miles. Done. Easy to remember these. (I fall into this group).

Option 2: for 3k mile OCI people. Run application for 3k miles. Run Rinse for 3k miles. Done. Easy to remember for these folks too.

Unfortunately, there are some OCD anal-retentive people that would either want to know "if" one is "better" than the other, or, they'd try 2.75k miles to find the "sweet spot" in between.

Again, don't sweat the small stuff.

I have a feeling that the ARX OCI's are based on when the filters should be changed, rather than when the oil needs changed. I'm certain that any group II+ or group III is still serviceable after only 2500 miles with ARX. If you need to keep the oil in the crankcase for a longer period, just change the filter and drive on! Same with the 3000 mile rinse.

You don.t want to drive with oil that is full of contaminants. At 2500 miles, it,s time to change your oil and filter. Follow the Auto-Rx Application and you get the results you bought the product for.

Excellent

I believe it is hard to know how badly an engine is contaminated with what deposits, and then to know exactly how much of the ARX to add and then exactly how long to run it based on the above and the driving conditions which will all play a part in how it goes down, so to speak. So to simplify, Frank has come up with a set of instructions that should work resonably well for most situations. He has modified them over time after numerous customer feedback and real world testing/experimenting. If you go and double the mileage or dose or whatever, you are now doing your own experiment and may or may not get desired results. That being said, I tend to go longer on mileage on a second treatment.

There is only one appoved set of applications for the use of Auto-Rx. This set of applications is the only one guaranteed to work, or your money will be refunded. The application procedure can be found on http://www.auto_rx.com only. Anyone posting an alternate application is misinformed. We have had several different application ratios tested and the one which I am most comfortable is 4 ounces of Auto-Rx for a "sludge engine" maintainance dose. Please click on the Auto-Rx tech board for cutting edge input. You will find this on the header of the Auto-Rx web site.
