New Audi SQ8 - Break In Oil Change Or Let It Ride?

Current VW Sportwagen. 102K/6 years and counting. Modded for >2x stock power. Tracked. First change at 7K after car sat a year on the lot. 180 psi compression all 4 cylinders. No oil consumption. It's really unnecessary for longevity but I get it makes people feel good so just say "It makes me feel good but I know it's unnecessary for long service life."..there, no more debate People always make it sound like you have to do this if you want to keep it a long time which is simply not true.

Not all engines are created equal........as I'm sure you know.

Must have worked though. We have 60k kms of all city short trip and the thing does not use any oil at all. Perfect compression across.
A bit more diluted with fuel but hey.....what can you do.

So does mine beating the crap out of it at 100k and I did mine at 7k

Selling the mandatory 1000 mile oil change..his words.
I have no problem with that...
So why doesn't Toyota offer that in their free scheduled maintenance plan if it's so important?

No it was actually fine...

I bet you that a UOA on that oil would have proven otherwise….

Not to mention the fact that the manufacture date of that car was Sept 94 and I bought it in Jan 96. The oil was already old, plus sitting on the lot for long periods of time and lots of cold starts and shut offs. There’s no way that I wasn’t going to spend $30 to put fresh oil in there. I would have been insane to have left it

All break in oils, UOAs, have wear metals through the roof........
Good luck finding a bunch of UOAs that state otherwise.......

I have always changed mine out at around 1200 miles. Why not? This is the only chance you get.

Uh, no, it never went away. Unless you are referring strictly to the break-in. The point is to get all the crud in there from manufacturing out. When you see leaks from the oil filter pressure valve, possibly allowing some garbage to escape the filter and mingle in the oil, well........

Congrats on that nice car! I would change it at <1000 miles and then let the OLM do its work, whether it be Audi Oil or ESP.

With a car like that I’d change it early and run the best oil money can buy. The little rich kid down the road has one and I drool everytime he drives by.
