Cool. I like how Amsoil targets these niche markets. Looks like a straight PAO with no VM's.
 
I'm very intrigued by this new oil. I have been using Amsoil's MCT (10W-30 motorcycle oil) in a boatload of small engines, ranging from 3.8 - 18.5 HP. I believe MCT is nearly perfect for this application, with one exception - there are no friction modifiers in MCT, to maintain compatibility with the wet clutches that are used in many motorcycles. It sounds like this new ZRT might be essentially the same as MCT, except perhaps (and I am speculating) it might contain friction modifiers. I intend to contact Amsoil to ask them. If I am correct, I will be switching from MCT to ZRT for all my small engines...
 
This is a very interesting development.....

I thought that Amsoil would recommend their Dominator race oil for older engines requiring high Zn/Ph....suprised they brought out a new oil to further split that market.

I've read a post by I think TooSlick that said he recommended Amsoil's WCT 10w30 (10W-30 marine oil) for seldom-driven classic cars and hot rods...said it had the anti-corrosion stuff needed for that application.

With a TBN of 9? Very odd for Amsoil to recommend such a short OCI. The NOACK and HTHS are very nice for the 10W30.

Not to me. It looks like their 10W30 Marine Oil (WCT). The TBN is lower, but the 100C, 40C, Flash Point, HT/HS and NOACK are pretty close to Marine oil.

I'm guessing it must be a pretty good product. Marine engines stay at full throttle longer than most car engines.

Maybe the base oils are similar. Z-Rod has anti-rust and more detergent additives than Dominator. Amsoil is just being conservative on the OCI, but it's true that it's not a super long extended drain oil by design. I'm just speculating but in storage in a dry area, I think the 1 year could easily be pushed.

I sent email to Amsoil asking about Friction modifiers. To recap, I have been using Amsoil MCT (Motorcycle oil) 10w30 in all my small engines. I like the features of this oil with the exception it has no friction modifiers, to maintain compatibility with wet clutches. Here is Amsoil's response:

The Z-Rod oils are highly friction modified. That means they should NOT be used in wet clutch applications. The MCT is not friction modified so it is wet clutch compatible. As your engines do not have wet clutches, the Z-rod oil could be used.

I think I have found the new oil I will be using in all my small engines!
 
hmmmh......I wonder if this could be a good oil for the old jeep 4.0 I-6...I'm thinking it would be.
