So, whats the basic consensus, that M1 is about the same quality's of Amsoil?

IMHO, YES. Not much of a difference. Amsoil might have an advantage in some aspects with some grades, but over all they are VERY similar oils.

so, for a 5w30, are we talking the old M1 thast been around forever, or are we talking about teh new M1 Extended use? Either way, I think I'll start with a 5k mile change interval, and possibly work my way up from there.

M1 EP is under $26.00 for 5qts at W-M/$5.62 per single qt. EP(also rated SL) is basically the same as the SL rated M1 of old. The new SM seems to be a bit weaker. Don't no if it was the reason for the higher iron than my first two samples were with the old SL M1 or due to me running it the full 10000mi run with no filter change thus very little makeup oil added as was done with the first two. It jumped up to 59 with TBN of 3.6/ had 38/47 iron with TBN of 4.1/3.5 with the first two.

The closest WalMart is Lynnwood/Mill Creek. NOT.

There are no Pepboys, Autozone, Advance Auto at all within range of my house or work, only Shucks.

But I fully understand M1 can be had for less, but same goes for Amsoil, too. It really isn't fair to say Amsoil has shipping costs and then not include gas and car wear and tear chasing M1 down. Realize that I would have to use at least $6 worth of gas to get low cost M1.

YOU might need significant wear and tear to get to Wal*Mart. There's one here in the same complex as the Hannaford I go to at least twice a week, so for me the extra wear and tear on my car is about half a mile and less than 7c of gas. Not an issue. You can't calculate for someone living in a remote area and then apply it to most people, as most people are close to a Wal*Mart.

Pablo I know you have a NAPA or 2 in your area-if not Duvall, Monroe to the north and Carnation/Tolt to the south and a Carquest in Duvall(yes too high $$$ but you do have one in Duvall-been there and I work in Monroe)

Yeah there is a Napa in Carnation. Drove by it last night, but it was closed. Mobil1 is $7.15/qt at my local (Duvall) Carquest. Shucks all over Redmond/Kirkland and then there is Fred Meyer.

Too easy for me to order Amsoil.

Local stations say they are now paying $5.20 per qt for Mobil 1, and after a markup that makes it pretty pricey. A number of them have switched to AMSOIL XL.

Of course, it is not unusual for the station price to be higher than the Costco price--it's been that way for at least 20 years that I know of. Think it may have something to do with the ExxonMobil marketing plan.

as most people are close to a Wal*Mart.

There is one 11 miles from me but I rarely go there except to shop for my elderly mother, bread only 1.03 loaf etc. Other than that one, the next closest is 100 miles distant.

Going to WM to buy oil usually costs more that many will admit. 12 pk soda, chips, BEER, 5 extra oil filters (they were just such a deal) you did nit really need and other junk tempting you. I wonder how many times they said to themselves, I should have never went there, I spent way to much money on crap I did not really need.

I've seen Amsoil at locals shops and gas stations for as high as $10.95qt (S2k).

Considering you can purchase it from Amsoils online store for $8.75 (which is also the suggested retail) and if you purchase it by the case $8.65.
I would call that Over priced.

I combine my shopping at walmarts to include food, household items and automotive. That comes to about 3 cents extra for my 5 quarts bottle of Mobil 1 10w30 @ 20.17 + $1.31 tax + 0.03 driving cost= $21.51 for 5 quarts. I think Amsoil is a small company that must buy there base oil and additives from others so I expect a higher price but, I still think it is very over priced but, a very good oil.

****, The Costco Springfield does not carry any mobil anymore. I was at the store today and the only selection was shell products. I was ******.
