Well a 24 F-150 came off the truck last week and I was doing the PDI on it and it was optioned very nicely and with D-plan and almost $11,000 in equity in my two cars +1.9% for 60 months and $1000 trading allowance. I decided to buy a 2024 F150 Powerboost in avalanche gray. Sad part is after driving off the lot with it. There was a shutter in the higher gears. Made a contact with Ford and they told us to replace the transmission but other than that I love this truck.

Before I did the solar project on the camper I was about 90% of the way into picking one of those up. Still think they are an excellent choice for RV'ers with the 7.2kw ProPower Onboard.

Odd about the shutter, that's not one of the ways the 10R80's usually fail...and sucks that they're still shipping issues with those things.

The 10R80s fail in so many ways-can’t shift cold, sometimes can’t shift hot, sometimes get stuck in gear and can’t downshift into a lower gear on the interstate. The disconcerting thing is when it gets stuck between gears & the TCM/PCM raises the RPMs & it does a neutral drop when it finally hits a gear. I’ve nursed the one in my company Transit 250 to 104,000 miles, it’s had issues since ~30,000, Ford has shown ZERO interest in fixing it-wouldn’t even replace it OUT OF WARRANTY when the company was willing to pay for it. Anyone who buys a 10R80 equipped truck or van is making a big mistake…

I've been tracking several of them in the Rangers, and so far we're having what I consider to be great success using Lubegard Platinum in them. It seems to provide just the right amount of something to keep the valve bodies moving freely.

It shouldn't be that way, but when they work right, they are a nice piece of kit and they're a joy to tow with.

Just replaced the valve body in this one out of warranty (2018). Was driving fine thereafter, but at only 18,000 miles, I've lost confidence. Made it Carvana's problem last weekend. I felt like it wasn't done failing me.

That's why I preach that you have to keep the fluid clean (Ford's 150k mile change is bonkers) and use LG at the first sign of a slow valve body. Like I said, we shouldn't have to, but I like my truck too much to let it fail.

Whatever difference GM is doing with programming seems to make them a little better, but I believe that they'll have issues as well eventually.

This one has the 2.4kw ProPower onboard. I’ve seen a few regular 10r80’s on 21+ do it but this one has the MHT 10R80. There was a TSB to update the pcm to fix it and it did on older ones. There was no software update for this one on FDRS. Our FSE told us to compare to another other the lot and if it doesn’t to it to LTIS the trans. So I replaced it and it’s good to go now.

I sortof assumed that from the MG back the 10R80 part was the same on them. Different bellhousing and all, but otherwise mostly same same.

Yikes, that's a lot of work for a brand new vehicle.

I wonder if the issue would have worked itself out?

I drive a 2024 Lariat 5.0 and have come to really love the thing. Just a really nice truck.

Did they give you a 'rebuilt' trans?

Yep, I just assumed the main difference was the little front section there split just behind that blue plug. Figured everything behind that was largely 'normal' 10R80.
Pretty much. I like they updated the software where it shifts through every gear now and doesn’t skip shift.

I doubt it it kept getting worse every lil hill I went up or to pass someone it would vibrate the pedal and floor.
It came from AER so I don’t know I’ll have to look Monday.

@gabriel9766 I suspect it will start skipping gears as it fulfills its learning algorithm. I’ve reset mine a couple of times and seems it uses all of them at first. I’m with you, I don’t mind using all the gears and doing so avoids some bonkers shifts. Otoh, under hard takeoff, skipping is good.

Note. My ‘18 has had problems since 18k miles. I change the fluid every 30k and use a 1/4 or so dose of lubegaurd red. Does wonders, and when it’s good, it’s a great unit. It does act up on occasion and I start talking about selling it. But fluid change and adaptives reset(s) and patience has paid off. Right now it’s in a good phase. Dealer was no help when I went to them about it.

I think the powerboost is a stellar idea. A friend may be selling his. My ‘18 does so many things well that I haven’t found something that checks all the boxes as well as it does for me. I’m restraining from asking him to put me on the inside track for when he sells it.

I picked up this off-lease CPO '21 Lariat PowerBoost last week. First time owning a pickup. I flew ~500 miles to pick it up and drove it home due to the great deal and it was optioned exactly how I would've ordered it (e.g. had to have the panoramic roof and love the Lead Foot color). So far it seems to drive great. And, so far, I'm amazed at the fuel economy according to the computer. Since I picked it up from the dealer 500 miles away I'm averaging 24.1 mpg (after ~700 miles of driving) and since I filled up the tank over the weekend and driving around the suburbs doing errands I'm averaging 26.3. Tomorrow I'll start commuting to work downtown with it so we'll see what the real world long term mileage ends up being. I'll be very happy with 23 which seems doable at this early stage.
