Received a kit so that I can participate in the Pennzoil used oil analysis program. The plan was to do an oil change in the next couple of days and send in the sample. Unfortunately, intake or head gaskets went out and I was losing or burning antifreeze. Only 125kmiles. Gone is the 2009 Chrysler T&C 3.8,new in the stable is a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan, 3.6, 29k miles. Oil was changed at the dealership with, I assume AC Delco conventional oil. I won't run this oil head to head with PUP. We have an interesting opportunity here to compare PUP to a full synthetic of choice. I have PM'd Gena Fishbeck looking for recommendations.

Now Oci questions: my old van recommended 6k OCI'S. It also had an OLM that seemed to be mileage based. The new van says oil & filter every 4k for severe duty, under no circumstances go more than 10k miles or one year, otherwise follow OLM. I would like to do 8k-10k mile OCI'S. Does anyone know how the OLMs work on the new Dodge vans?

the OLM is probably a real OLM like GM and Honda use, based on an algorithm taking into account rpm, vehicle speed, oil temp, coolant temp, ambient temp, idle time, etc. A real OLM should be able to take that "severe duty" into account

Same engine in our Wrangler. OLM seems to go about 9000 miles with mostly highway driving. Might be different depending on your driving habits. I don't know if the vans show oil life percentage, but the Wrangler doesn't. It just puts a message to the dash that says "Oil Change Required" when it's time to change it. I've been using Pennzoil Ultra Platium 5w20 in it with Mopar filters.

It's this.

Change it when it tells you to. It's not just based on mileage but those other factors as well. I got 10k miles on Valvoline conventional (which meets the Chrysler spec) before changing based on the OLM in my 14 Wrangler.
