I just picked up a new (to me) 07 4runner and was looking for some recommendations for oil to run on my next change.
1. What kind of vehicle you have:
07 Toyota 4Runner with 52k miles
2. What your owner's manual says -- not just viscosity, but certifications (look for acronyms like API SM, ILSAC GF-4, etc.) and change intervals as well:ISLAC multigrade 5w30. I'm pretty sure there was a TSB OKing 5w-20, not sure.
5k mile interval.
3. Where you live:
Suburbs of Boston.
4. How you drive (easy? hard? fast? slow?):
I'm usually pretty easy, but have been known to get into the gas at times.
5. What your daily drive is like (short trips? long trips? city? highway?):
5 miles through the suburbs with a short shot on the highway.
6. Whether your car has any known problems
no problems, but the Toyota owners website lists the prior service if it was done at the dealer. All it says is "synthetic oil change" at a regular interval. Its a certified vehicle so it comes with a 100k warranty, so I want to stick with the 5k intervals. If it hadn't been started on synthetic, I probably would have stuck with a good dino. oil.
Some people have reported luck running 0w-20, but I'm worried what Toyota would have to say if there was an issue down the road.
Right now I'm inclined to run Mobil 1 5w20 or 30, but wanted some other opinions. Thanks in advance!
