New 05 GMC 2500 6.0L

Sold my awesome T100 on to a friend; just to upgrade to a real double cab. I found this truck for a very low price and the previous owner had a blackstone labs UOA of the Mobil 1 High Mileage 5w30 oil he ran in it. No leaks or engine noises. SLT model with nearly everything but 4WD or the diesel. Gas mileage is pretty bad, like 10 city 16 highway with the 285s. 19 mpg highway at 50-55 mph can be done on some slow roads. 187k miles. If this was a 4x4 diesel with a bit less miles it would have gone for 4x the price i paid, not even joking.

Sold off the tonneau cover and black steelies with 285 75 16 in favor of open bed and 235 85 16 on poweder coated forged OE wheels. Had to get some new head lights and a gauge cluster rebuild. Looking to do brakes, an ECU tune, and maybe an LS3 crate engine some day just for fun.

Nice truck, my dad had an 04 Silverado Duramax. Was a great truck, they're very comfortable. BFG makes some awesome tires too.

Do you have the center caps for the wheels?

I have a full set of GMC and Chevy caps but i haven't decided if i want to run caps or not with the black chrome wheels. I would love to tint the fronts some but Utah is strict on front tint and i'd rather just not get hassled.

I do have Torque Pro but don't know how to use it for knock monitoring. The truck seems to run really good its just a 6.0L V8 and a 4L80E automatic so i can't expect much fuel economy. No big deal since it will see low mileage use.

1. Go to Settings
2. Click Manage extra PIDs/Sensors
3. Click on top right (three dots), then select Add predefined set
4. Select Pontiac/GM/Opel/Vauxhall
5. Select Knock Retard from the list, and create a new gauge

Now, just monitor it as you drive and see how much timing it's pulling; as a 6.0L owner myself, I bet you're going to be surprised!

excellent truck, my morning project will be to replace the idler/pitman and inner/outer tie rods on my inherited 2500 (dad passed), and new tires late this week. its 17 years old and running strong, yours should last a long time too.

Thank you for the compliments. It seems to be doing better on gas on the new skinny tires, as would be expected.

great truck,IMO GMs best trucks are 1999-2007,of tjose I have had two and both are still running,my buddys even went to 500K miles and is also still running
Todays GM truck is a mess with 8>4 cyl or power on demand which has killed more LS motors than they would admit and why I went with Ford last year

Restored the caps. It is now Professional Grade:



Polished the emblems, and plasti dipped. It worked out well, i would paint them if needed.

Now, if you have time of course, paint, undercoat or just oil and kerosene the frame rails.....they are very noticable on these Heavy Chevys.

Excellent advice. I do want to get under the whole truck front to back and do some sort of rust removal and paint. Its surprisingly rusty under there for a 2WD. I just need to figure out the best way to do it and the time.
