Went to see Motley Crue in concert last night. There, I admitted it.
A friend bought a private box and invited us, it was great to reconnect with old friends! A bunch of 30 & 40 somethings reminiscing about the the "good old" days of rock in the 80's.
First up, The New York Dolls opened the show.
Living in Nashville, I'm hesitant to make fun of acts as there is a lot of talent here trying to make it. But these guys...
a) sound like Ratt with Joey Ramone as lead vocalist
b) have a lead vocalist who's a younger Mick Jagger in drag
c) a band that has never had a top 40 hit
d) all of the above
'nuff said.
Next up, Poison.
GREAT show. The sound was somewhat muddy but they were far, the best band of the night. Everyone enjoyed the sub 1-hour show, they need to play longer, they were fun.
Last up, the Crue.
The sound mix was awful, couldn't distinguish any instrument from any other. Here in Nashville (well, L.A. and N.Y. too), I expect much more from any concert as the best of the best sound guys live here. Even with controlling sound into the ear canals, it was mud.
And the show was dark. Really dark. I knew it going in, but wow, that's enough darkness for one lifetime.
Pure entertainment: In the box next to us, some Vin Diesel-looking dude had his way with some bubbly blonde he met a few rows in front of him, right there for all to see. We were all laughing at them.
And one of his friends was trying to hit on a gal in our group. But only one problem: she's married & visibly pregnant. Oh, and her husband was sitting right beside her. Yeah, this guy is a full-fledged member of the Densa society. Dork.
All in all, it was a fun night.
