Neighbors who constantly park in front of my house

The state may have a HOA board which you could write to regarding this issue. Next, contact the police and express your concerns about the amount of cars and people living in the household. If there is unusual activity at all hours perhaps this could be mentioned as well. Forget the rocks, spikes, bird houses, sprinklers etc...do like the camera idea though. I sure hope this works out for you. Very aggrevating situation. What about of your guest parking? Once again, hope it works out for the best.

Yes very inconsiderate neighbors. To myself and my other neighbors they are trash. I have owned four homes in four different states, and you would NEVER park in front of a neighbors house except in an emergency or very occasional party.
I have always had pretty good neighbors except in this case. This is my most expensive house, and I always thought better neighborhood better neighbors, but not necessarily true.

There is nothing preventing them from parking across the street from their house. It seem like it would be preferable to them as they are lazy, don't work, and the women are on the large side.

Its just irritating after working all day to sit on my front porch with a cold drink, and look across my beautiful property to the front to see some POS cars in front of my yard.

You've told them that you don't want them parking in front of your house, which you own.
You've told them that they can park in front of the house they live in and don't own, or maybe even the driveway.
They're transients, not owners and not desirable neighbors worthy of respect.
They probably aren't drug dealers and they probably aren't involved in anything beyond misdemeanors and probably not even that.
If I got a dollar for every kid I saw driving a POS Tahoe on cheap chrome rims, I'd be retired and might buy such a POS ride myself, just to irritate certain posters in this thread.
Sometimes, a pound of roofing nails can be your best friend.

This thread has pretty much mad me lose what little faith I had left in human nature. I'm just glad I live in the city and don't have to to deal with these suburban problems. If a car sits unmoved for more than 48 hours on my street, it has a ticket on it; 72 hours and it's gone. Keeps things simple!

We live in a little subdivision in which development started before the second world war.
It remains a quiet and isolated little enclave.
We have large lots, but we have none of the problems the OP is so frustrated with.
We also have plenty of blue collar neighbors who'd be more than willing to deal with people like the OP's neighbors.
They wouldn't call the police, either.

I dealt with a similar problem by blocking them in. After they got stuck for a day or so...and didn't have the guts to knock on my door to ask me to move one of my vehicles they gave up and parked in their driveway.

I still say get a HUGE trailer that`s a block long and keep it parked in front of their house, loaded to the hilt with junk and garbage.

If you're not living in the right neighborhoods in Arlington, Fairfax and Loudoin counties, NOVA is turning into a mess with vagrants, illegals, etc.

Not sure if that's your case though, seems more like just sloppy people.

I know laziness, we have a no street parking overnight ordinance, and the lady who used to live across the street would leave her car out (with another in the driveway rarely used and two empty garage spots) every night and usually right across from our driveway apron. Really just a hassle, but certainly it was one. Asking helped for a little while, never permanent.

You have better control here since its property that you maintain. Personally, I think some boxwood would look great in that area and along the street. Of they drive over your plants on your grass, call the police.

You might also get some of those orange sticks that people use to mark off curbs and hydrants for the snowplow season. Get four or five and put them in the grass by the street. Should be easy to mow and trim around, or else pulling re stick when mowing.

Follow up with bushes if you want.

I think bushes or even a Belgian block curb would look nice there.

Maybe plant a huge row of needlepoint hollies. Those things will keep anything and everything away!

This thread is hilarious to read. One problem and hundreds of solutions. I'll throw one more: fake parking tickets.

A few doors down I have a neighbor like that....

1. Get a few bags of gravel from Home Depot along with a new mower blade.
2. Set the new blade aside.
3. Pour gravel in the grass and ditch.
4. Set mower as low as possible and mow next to the cars for 30 minutes or so.

OR

1. Remove all Schrader valves from valve stems.
2. Tape them to the windshield with some extra gooey duct tape.

OR

1. Cover that area with 3/4 in. roofing nails and watch the fun

It's amazing that some resort to damage to get their way - so I must assume that they are all jokes.

The unemployed can too,as long as it`s not with an EBT or Lonestar card,or then the BBQ they`re enjoying belongs to the employed.

Time to join your HOA and change the overnight parking rules. Once on the HOA board request your city council and safety director enact legislation for an overnight parking ban. Add language that no one can park a vehicle in the street for more than 8 hours without moving it. Create "no parking" zones. Install signs.

This takes some time and effort but you will be surprised the support you will get from other residents. Remember: It is a danger to children to have cars parked along the street because they can walk out from behind them and be hit by cars passing by since they are blocked from the view of drivers by the parked cars.

Require residents to get "permits" from the HOA to park for parties, weddings etc.

No amount of discussion worked....real idiots that pretended to not understand me. They even parked up on my grass NOSE IN....right up to my front fence. They also littered all over the place and at times, blocked my mail from arriving. Nobody would help me unless the cars were abandoned. They weren't as they were moved daily. So....what I did was go to a local sand and gravel pit and purchased about eight HUGE rocks (I think they were called 4 man size or bigger). At the time I had a Ford Ranger and only about three would fit in the back at a time. I did this when the cars were all gone somewhere for the day. I used a wrecking bar to roll those rocks into the former parking spots in front of my house. No way anybody could move them without great difficulty and I placed them far enough from the road that the county said nothing. My problem was solved. Anybody ever asks about the rocks I just tell them it's my landscaping beautification idea.
As long as the HOA will allow it in your community, I would give it a try. Otherwise certainly DON'T stop mowing, weed-eating, or blowing just because they park in front of your house. A dusty, grass sprayed car will most likely send the message that you don't want them parking there.

Pics please!

And you know that's because people can't afford their own place any more...
