This guy has to have had a bad reason to do what happened. His chance of a normal life was over probably a while ago. I bet it was drugs.

You may be right. Please send financial resources sufficient to pay his bail and transport him to your neighborhood where you can help him all you want.

If he did that, then the alleged perpetrator would be jumping bail, which would put him in even more trouble.

Since it's california, I imagine the gas station attendant will be charged with assault on the victim (carjacker). Poor boy was just trying to get ahead, and he could have been injured by the mean attendant while doing so...
That's a really good bail for California... Must have quite the prior history.

Good question, I only know a few retired LE that carry, and they go anywhere in the state. Other than that I honestly don't know. NY and CA are very tough when it comes to carrying a handgun.
Maybe visible carry would be even better. If he sees you are packin, he might not even try.

Many carjackers are after specific makes and models, for the "chop shop" parts business. Free lance socialists redistributing wealth.
I've had a couple of experiences. One a few years back in the city of Newburgh, NY where it sure seems they tried to jack me (driving my older Jag X-Type) by turning their beat up old Camry sideways in front of me at the stop sign, then all 3 "thugs" got out and came my way.
Since that Jag is AWD, I bombed over the sidewalk, taking the risk that I would not get stuck, and took off. They did not bother to chase me. I can't imagine they wanted my old Jag for parts, and they probably would not be able to drive the manual transmission.
I'll say this, had I been stuck, I was willing to fight using adequate tools.
I will NEVER step foot in that neighborhood again (near SWF airport). A year after that, I watched a guy get shot to death right in front of me. It would not be appropriate to post here, but in case someone wants to see it, I posted the pic on X.
