Next oil change is coming up on F150 5.4L 3v.
I intend to use 6 quarts of Motorcraft 5w20 and 1 quart of Redline 30wt racing oil, couldn't find any 20wt Redline. Looking to put more "anti-wear" compounds in the mix. Am I creating problems in doing this?

Redline makes a 5w20 motor oil. Their regular motor oils already have high antiwear additives, ZDDP and moly. That probably will do. Some have said not to mix, but it seems a quart of Redline esters into a regular oil would do wonders for cold starts, might help keep the engine clean, and would reduce friction. But the racing oils I don't think have much detergent, so probably not a good idea even for only adding one quart. Don't want to dilute the Motorcraft detergents, so it seems to me.

As noted above, do not believe the racing oils have much of a detergent or additive package for wear. That is why they are changed out after every race

Talk to RedLine.

Good plan - as mentioned just go for the normal RedLine. Won't matter if its 20 or 30 wt at that mixture. I'm going with a 25% mixture of RL with the Mobil Drive Clean oil.

TallPaul, Spector and Al...thanks for the info. I will pickup some Redline 5w20 this evening. dbf
