Need to change oil

I'd vote for using a suction gun and pulling the old oil out the fill hole. It's easy, fast and not too messy if you're careful. I'd still do the job on a piece of cardboard, because you'll dribble some. I've been doing it that way for some time.

Using the drain plug on a push mower is a PIA. Tipping it to drain it would be too much work for me and I know I'd make a royal mess with that method.

If the engine has a dip stick tube , tipping up on the side has always been easier for me . The really older Briggs with the little plastic plug with the little nipples sticking up was a mess to tip up and drain .

I just drained it out the fill hole
I just thought it strange having no plug like all my others
No biggie
