I went to save my neighbor lady from disaster, and found out something interesting. She went to fill the gas on her mower and filled the crankcase instead. She called me to look at it and I said, gotta drain it out. Lifted the mower to pull the plug, and low and behold NO drain plug. It's a new 5.5 hp Craftman push mower.When did they eliminate drain plugs on these? I looked on top then back under NADDA. I finally just tipped it over and let it drain, then refilled it and fired her up. No problem after wards. I guess they don't expect people to change their oil any more.,,
How ya suppose to change the oil?.,,

you have to turn the mower on its side to drain it. my 6.75 briggs is like that. I put the mower up on the concrete and the drain pan abut 4 inches lower on the ground and tip the mower over and drain it out the dipstick.

Same thing on my Kawasaki engined John Deere walk behind. It's pretty normal.
Does not sound very normal to not have a drain plug. Sounds pretty lame to me.
your neighbor is an idiot. the gas tank cap is usually the largest and most obvious on the thing.
Not that unusual on mowers. My previous craftsman with a Techumseh on it was that way. Just drain it out the fill tube by tipping the mower. Not that hard to do.
Though you have to have the gas tank empty when you do it. So you either have to waste gas running it dry, come up with a complicated siphon arrangement, or mow half the lawn, run it out, change it there, fill with more gas, and continue.

Tecumseh push mowers have been tippers for 20 yrs.
Gas tank fill is opposite of oil fill so no tank draining.

My old 90's Toro has a drain plug.
My Honda HR215 Masters needs to be tipped. The GXV140 engine does have a drain, but the shape and contour of the deck makes it unusable.

Same with the HR214. I tried to attach a section of tubing to the drain but it didn't work too well.

I hate to admit this but this happened a couple years ago with my mother. She went to add gas to a borrowed mower and poured it in the oil fill. I caught it, immediately dumped the oil and refilled (it was due for a change anyway).
We ran it for a couple hours doing the fall clean-up and then I changed the oil again. Mower never missed a beat (I forget make and model but it was very new).
