need tires

I have not posted here in awhile. I had a set of Capital tires put on and I have 30 k on them now and they need to be replaced before winter.
The money I have to spend would allow Sears guardsman- Big O Dorals-Cooper response touring from sears or Discount Tires SA4.
So I'm in the 285 to 330 out the door price.Tire price about $58.
Any thought on theses tires or a better choice. My main concern is getting thru the snow with out going to a true winter tire.

Some of the cheapest tires I've seen have been winter tires, but then of course you'll need something next spring...

$58+ $15 or so to balance -plus new stems-plus disposal fees and sales tax.

My Mom's 03' Corolla needed tires (185/65/15) and I bought the Cooper Response @ Sears. Very quiet tire and gives comfortable ride. Handling was fine. I was impressed and pleased w/the purchase. No experience w/them in winter's snow. Best tire I could find for the price and there's a $40 mail in rebate as well! So...$280 OTD.

i suggest the cooper cs4 t- speed rating, i have a set and they are the best tires i've ever had, they are made in the u.s. by a company that is u.s. owned. they are extremely quiet, do awesome in the rain and have a 80k mi treadwear rating.

I understand very well we all have to be thrifty these days.

But I do believe that there are some areas where people simply should not try to save a buck.

Get some Decent winter shoes for your car and save yourself and your fellow drivers some headache.

It aint so much about get up and go, you still have to be able to stop.

And nothing beats a winter tire in the winter when it comes down to slowing youre ride down.

dont go too cheap.. it only takes one slide into something to cost a whole lot.

40 or 60$ more(total) on some good tires goes a long way in that tire size.

Total "Out the Door" Price
$284.00 It's for 185-64-14 Hankook Optimo H727 from Discounttiresdirect website. To bad you missed their labor day sale. It was $50 rebate. But those still have manufacture $50 rebate.So total would be 234+install and balance+alignment. Those tires ranked #1 in many categories among all season touring tires,including noise,snow and ice traction. 100k mile warranty.
I just got my set delivered today. Will put them on around mid December.
My car has older Hankook tires on it(don't remember model),which came on it. Not bad at all,moderate noise, last winter was fine with snow layer up to 3-4 in on the road. But they are old,start getting little cracks on the sides,and couple are getting close to indicators.

Most important in winter to be careful and aware that other drivers tire might suck.

Just noticed that OP is from Colorado. For that kind of winter I would go with dedicated winter tires, and save some money till spring...for summer set with rims. Will save you money on mounting and balancing each time.

Last week Discount/America's Tire had $100 rebate and Hankook has $50 rebate, with these rebates the total out the door should be $230-240 for 4 Hankook Optimo H727 in size 185/65-14. That what I had for '91 Tracer last year when America's Tire had $100 rebate and Hankook has $40 rebate.

I'd go with the Cooper CS4 if you can. I'd also consider the yokohama avid touring and trz, though they will probably be a bit more expensive.

all those are good, the yokohama avid touring are the worst of the 3 in winter..

hankook 727's are fairly amazing all around tire also.

With the current choices-I'd go with either the Sears Guardsman or the Cooper Response, with the CR being my first choice.

The Guardsman is yet another sister tire to the Cooper's Trendsetter SE tire. For budget tires with smaller wheels, they seem to hold up quite well..

Cooper's Response tire is pretty close to the Lifeliner, a mid level tire. A good buddy of mine put these on his Saturn, and they held up quite nicely, even offering a nice bit of handling...



Though if you can swing some CS4s, they are pretty nice tires...

Yokos tend to be pretty useless here in the winter months...though it would depend on how much snow he gets..

I'm leaning towards the Sears Coopers. Funny that no one has commented on the Doral tires from Big O.
