need straightforward info on kendall

1999 Subaru Forester 2.5 N/A boxer w/ 27,500 + miles

1) not allowed to do maintenance on grounds of new apartment complex; not allowed to do maintenance on streets of township where I live

2) had a coupon for @ $16.00 for oil change at the local Good Year

3) they used bulk 10W30 Kendall and a brand of filter that is made by Champion Labs

4) I was told by service manager that the Kendall is a synthetic blend (ie: CononcoPhilips hydrocracked base oils that meet "synthetic" labeling criteria for US market)

5) Is the Kendall stuff and Champion filter combo good enough for up to 5K miles OCI?

I'd move...regardless of Kendall oils, and Champ filters.

Are you allowed to cut your own fingernails, or must you pay someone to do that also ?

Kendall is a fine blend from CP. It's their #2 oil I think behind motorcraft.

Find the management offices' Corp. Headquarters, go out there one night, dump your oil in their parking lot, and nail a sign to their door telling them that wouldn't happen except you aren't allowed to do it at home.

Had a oil change at Fearstone with the Kendall-GT1 5w30 semi-syn and it ran real smooth and did not turn black fast. But it was the only oil used so far that some oil was used, 1/2 qt in 4000 miles.

It's a decent price to have a shop change your oil and a decent oil and filter combo. $16.00 isn't bad. Or find a friend or family member that will allow you to do your oil change at their house/appt.

Get a fumoto drain plug with the nipple and a hose so you can do a stealth OCI.

Wow - a service manager who actually listened to and comprehended what his jobber told him! The other ConocoPhillips synthetic blends are 76 Super, Phillips 66 TropArtic, and Conoco All Season. Whether they actually differ from U.S. Motorcraft (also blended and bottled by ConocoPhillips for Ford) is subject to speculation, but I seriously doubt it. I'm on my second fill of TropArtic in my Hyundai. Neither fill resulted in observable oil use according to the dipstick. I also occasionally use a Champion Labs made oil filter - a WalMart SuperTech. Never had a problem with them.
