OK, I had to take my skid plate off my truck to do a drain and fill of the front differential.
My questions are
1. How do I tell my wife that I need to put the skid plate in the dish washer so the job can be correctly completed?
2. Should I just do it when she is not home and tell her later?
3. Am I going into the weeds and just slap that bad boy back on?

I wouldn't put anything oil related into a dishwasher. I know it cleans itself but still doesn't seem right. Who knows what carcinogens it can leave behind for the next X cycles.

I had a friend who converted his old dishwasher into a parts washer. Never seen it work though.

1. You don't
2. If you value your life and body parts
3. No, it must be clean to reinstall

Send video of your final solution to this problem.

But it's so dirty.....

My wife drove my 2004 Passat Wagon offroad and tore the front off the bellypan. She calls me later as she's driving on the highway complaining about a loud grinding noise from the car?

Naturally, since this blonde moment, I can do anything I want with any appliances without asking first.

I once ran a fan housing from a 1974 Beetle through my dishwasher. It was coffee black water through 2 wash cycles lol. Yay single days!

Can't resist:
Question: How did they get those blondes up on the roof?
Answer: Told them that the drinks are on the house!
*Married 48 years to the same blonde. Never a dull moment.

As a chemist, I would NEVER part car parts in a dishwasher where I did the family dishes. Owen Lucas is quite correct when he calls out carcinogens as a contaminant. Just because you can't see something doesn't mean it isn't there! Many of these carcinogens can be polycyclic aromatics or other nasties that can be blasted off of the part and then cling to the walls and racks of the dishwasher.

Use a dedicated washer, a tub full of hot, soapy water or a brush or a pressure washer outside.
