Hello I've been looking and looking and I cant find any solid answers on my specific questions.

Basically I have a 2005 Toyota Corolla 1ZZFE 5 Speed with just around 96K. I had been using 5W30 dino oil the entire time i owned the car from around 71K to 91K. Until recently I changed it with Toyota 0W20 in the black bottles since Toyota said 5W20 was ok for 1ZZFE engines and mobil says if 5W20 is ok then 0W20 is ok. The car sees a nice easy Highway run in the morning because i leave home early and then 9/10 a grueling stop and go run on the way home.

Well i recently went to Wally World and they were out of the 0W20 AFE Mobil in the 5 Qt jug and didnt have more than 3 in any 1 qt 0W20 Synthetic so i ended up buying the 0W30 AFE.

Basically concerning this car is the 0W30 a good switch oil? My goals with this car are to do 10K OCI and maintain my good 35MPG Driving which is a good 70%City and 30%HWY while maintaining the highest level of engine protection (I know have my cake and eat it too). I know the 1ZZFE engines used to have oil consumption issues but a 96K miles this car does not consume ANY oil at all and I meticulously maintain it.

The other car is my wife's 2005 Mazda 6i 2.3 MZR Auto. This car does a lot of sitting lately but will soon be doing some driving. I acquired this car at 59K miles and changed the 5W20 dino oil every 5K miles until recently 80K when i changed to 0W20 Toyota oil in it as well. Im wondering if going back to Mobil Full Synthetic 5W20 in the absence of 0W20 at Wally World. This car generally does not win any awards for its gas mileage but it is paid off and I would love to get the most out of the oil in regards to gas mileage but definitely engine protection as I personally don't trust this engine to win reliability awards compared to the 1ZZFE. Which working at a Toyota dealer for over 3 years has proven to be one of the most reliable engines I have ever seen.

It should be noted that both cars have only received factory oil filters since I have had them but I plan on switching to Pure One after seeing a cut open Denso USA filters questionable take on operation.

And final not so daily I also have a 1982 Corolla with a 1JZGTE Twin Turbo Swap. The swap isnt complete and in my possesion the engine has not been run in at least 3 years. When it is finally done and I go to drive this thing what is a good oil for such an old engine. It should be noted that I did open the engine up and everything internally looks brand new. I wasnt sure if something like 0W30 or 5W30 Mobil or Amsoil full synthetic would be good for a turbo engine(turbos are probably questionable due to age).

Anyway I know I rambled but just trying to give the best detail.

Thanks for any input.

I would have gone with the 3 qts of 0-20 and 1-2 of the 0-30. As for the other rice rocket I would stick with the mobil 1 5 w 20. You said it sits a lot so how much difference could 0-20 vs 5-20 make in a seldom used car?
I prefer to make horsepower the old fashioned way... big pistons. I dont trust turbos... I have seen too many blow in my time. Except the Buick Grand Nationals. They held up pretty well. Jusy my opinion of course.
Good luck.

I have the 1ZFE 1994 engine in my 2006 Matrix and live in similar climate. My understanding the 0W, 5W, etc is for the weight for winter. Your concern is between xxW 20 orxxW 30. I would thin the 0W-30 would be a good switch. What difference did you see from going to a 5W20 vs. the 5W30 ?

I run 0w-30 afe in my ford escape now. I run it 10k, i have not done a uoa on it but there are plenty here to support 10k runs. If your are unsure, run it 8k then one uoa. The 0-30 afe as been the smoothest quietest oil that i have run in it. The escape is spec'd for 5w-20. I'm not sure i'd run it in a turbo engine though.

AFE 0w20 or 0w30 is fine for both the Corolla and the Mazda. 0w30 might do a bit better for the summer while idling in traffic...might. I'd stick with the 0w20 if you can, or even Honda or Toyota 0w20 synthetics.

Thanks for the input that is exactly what I was thinking as far as the 0W30. As for the MPG difference in 5W30 to 0W20 in the Corolla I actually saw zero increase. And I meticulously count my miles per tank. And thanks for the advice on the Mazda i think i Will stick with the 5W20. As for mixing I wasnt sure on that but i will make sure to keep that in mind for the next oil change. I hope to do a 10K OCI for both cars and I would love for them to see at least 250K on original untouched engines.

As for the 82. The engine for those who dont know is an Inline 6 2.5 Liter. I do plan on beating on that car regularly and it will probably see very little regular driving (that is why we have daily drivers right). Would a 0W40 be worse than a 5W40 in that type of application and is any brand recommended over another for a turbo application.

Again thanks for all the input

run thicker bodied oil in the turbo like gtx. you do not need any 0w oils in Fla. forget that noise. 5w oils are fine.
I would run m1 5w20 in all my toyotas or any synthetic.
they are not picky .
its just to extend the oci.

Run Mobil 1 0W-40 in the Turbo car. Audi S4guys (I was one) love this oil in the twin Turbo V6 B5 S4 Audis. I also ran Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40 in the Audi with no problems.

Sweet you guys are the best. Its not often you find a forum where a first post gets such great replies. Looks like I have my answers.

Thanks again

Mike
