Just picked up one of these with extremely low miles. I want to keep this tip top as timing chain issues seem to come about using factory OCI. I plan on every 5k miles.

I have an Amsoil membership as I use it in my sports cars and am generally a fan. However, on their oil finder they don’t have a recommended oil for this vehicle. I’d love to run 0w20 Signature Series, but not sure if it’s appropriate. Any downsides to running it?

Other oils I’ve considered:

Liqui Moly LM20408 0W20 Special Tec LR
Liqui Moly LM20236 0W20 Top Tec 6200
Amsoil 0w20 LS Euro
Ravenol ECS 0w20
Mobil 1 ESP 0w20

I’m not necessarily looking to save money here, though the free shipping and discounts on my Amsoil account don’t hurt. I’m looking for the best protection!

Appreciate any insight.

Congrats. Nice truck, I just traded in our '20 with the P400 mild hybrid. We had no major issues w/ the vehicle in ~80k miles, however some were on the horizon.

I went to a 0w-30 after the warranty period for my past RR's and would recommend that.

I do always like a heavier weight.

No concern with tight tolerances/passageways and going with 30 weight?

I guess my question is, is the timing chain stretch and guides issue more of a sludge or thinning issue from long OCI’s? Assume we can only guess.

Thin oil plus soot in the oil from direct injection is what wears them out.

That’s why a Euro 3.5 HTHS oil plus shorter intervals is so important to avoid chain stretch.

Any benefit on running 0w20 only in winter? I do a lot of drives to far north New England in very cold temps.

That engine needs a 40wt.....Mobil 1 0w40 Euro would be perfect for that application, as its a lighter 40wt

Atleast 3.5, check Amsoils website for exact spec.

M1 ESP 0W30 available at Walmart for good price though.
Anyone have opinions between the Mobil 1 ESP and the Amsoil Euro oils? Say 0w30 in both.

ESP slightly cheaper, which is nice, but I don’t mind spending the money if the Amsoil is a bit better.

I’ve gone with the Amsoil for now. Will see if I notice any differences with noise/smoothness over dealership Castrol.
