Good morning fellas. I have a 2005 Toyota camry with the 2.4 liter 4 cyl in it. I want an oil that will provide excellent cold flow but also protect when hot. It needs to be a 5w-30 and would prefer a synthetic that can be bought from walmart or aa or az. I have rts t6 in there as we speak but the thicker 40 weight pulled my mpg down about 4-5 mpg. What's a good syn that gets great gas mileage? I was thinking either pp or syntec both in 5w-30 flavor. I usually do 5-7k oci. Also, I had pp on it with a p1 that made some bad sounds upon startup. Would syntec flow better/faster? I like both pennzoil and castrol products so whichever is ok with me.
Thanks,
Whitearrow

Castrol Edge 5w-30 is probably a good bet.

Why does it have to be 5w-30? I would think Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w-30 would be right up your alley.

Easy one, head to WM and grab your choice..

Mobil 5w30
Mobil 5w30HM
Mobil AFE 0w30
PU 5w30
PP 5w30

all fine oil's that will have excellent cold flow properties and will do the job you asked.

i like to pp. i mean, i like pp. qsud is also good and relatively inexpensive at ww, still ~$19? some like the motorcraft syn, and for your oci, it would be fine; can't argue with $14.

I have a 2006 Toyota, 3.3L V6 and I use Valvoline SynPower(full synthetic). Good quality oil and easily available in 5W-30 pretty much anywhere oil is sold.

I've found that Mobil 1 seems to be among the highest priced commercial syns out there. Rarely do I see it fall below $29.00 for a 5 quart jug. Compared to Quaker State UD or Pennzoil Platinum that average anywhere between $19-25 consistently without a sale price. Keep in mind, the difference in quality when used in 2005 Corrolla would be marginal at best. I doubt you'd "feel" any notable difference between major brands.

Valvoline makes a good product that I'm partial to. It averages about $25 for a 5 quart jug (sometimes $22 at Wallmart). Pretty much can't go wrong with any name-brand oil from a major supplier. Just stick to the OCI recommended by Toyota. IMHO, boutique brands like AMSOIL or Royal Purple might be overkill for a 2005 Corrolla.

Quaker State synthetic at walmart is about most reasonable out there, other than walmart supertech which is suppose to be the same oil as QS.

I don't know about QS being the same as ST

But yea, I can understand the reasoning, both the QS Synthetic and ST Synthetic quarts are translucent. I like the bottle design

I've heard good stuff about QS Synthetic....[censored], picked up a Mopar Performance mag the other day at walmart and was flipping through the pages, some of the tuners/modders are even running it....QS seems to have cleaned up their act in the past years.

I know I still hear some comments oh QS will sludge up an engine, etc.etc....but I think those times are gone.
at least, with timely OCIs.

What do y'all think about syntec 5w-30? How does it stack up against the others that y'all have mentioned? The reason I ask is that it is like $21for a 5 qt jug @ walmart.
Thanks for the opinions fellas,

Hi I have 2006 toyota camry v6 with 204,000 miles. at idle, my engine is very very quiet. you can't even tell if the car is on. The engine is still strong, more responsive with castrol. I am using castrol syntec 5w30.

I have aleady made conclusion from my test. synthetic oil doesn't increase mpg.. Whether I am using dino or synthetic, mpg is the same.. I have other tried chevron octane 91. It doesn't increase mpg. for the camry, octane 87 is ok. If you want better mpg, you have to drive slow, use cruise control, correct tire PSI, so on...

I think Castrol motor oil is better than mobil 1. I can tell you for sure that toyota engine love castrol.

Please check out my fuelly...
