I'm very leery of using a 20 weight oil in just about anything. The 30 weight was the most recommended weight for a long time, and still is in many vehicles, and many of the justifications, and the lack of justifications, for the move to the 20 weight in so many vehicles, have not convinced me.
A case in point. I have a 2003 Ford Ranger with the 3.0 liter Vulcan V6, an engine that's been around since sometime in the 80's. Ford always recommended a 30 weight for the engine. Then, in about 2001, Ford started recommending 5W-20, with as far as I can tell no explanation for the change. I've read a number of times that the sole reason for the change was to allow Ford to meet U.S. CAFE standards. I don't believe that an engine designed in and built since the 80's (and particularly this engine) is going to be so tightly built, to such low tolerances and clearances, that a 20 weight oil is necessary, especially when Ford told us, up until about 2001, to use a 30 weight in it. So I've been running a 30 weight in it since my first oil change. I've had no problems, tho I only have 20,000 miles on the truck.
