need oil and filter suggestions

hello im new to the board i have a 2001 infiniti i30 with 153,000 on it i was wondering what type of oil and filter should i use. currently ive been using maxlife 5w30 synthetic but i notice i heard the lifters tapping also the filter is very small and i was looking for an oversized filter and a pureone filter any suggestions on a good combo? i was thinking about Mobil 1 High Mileage but it only comes in 10w30 thanks guys

Oil generally won't fix lifter concerns. But an Auto-Rx can help. Do a search for it at the Oil Additives Board here. Lots of threads relating to Auto-Rx and engine noise therapy.

Start another thread in the Oil Filters forum here for any more options on larger oil filters. That's the place to get the right answer in a hurry.

Do the lifters tap all the time or just a few months into the oil change?

I would suggest Amsoil ASL 5w30 or SSO 0w30 and an Amsoil EaO-13 oil filter.

I used to have a 1998 Nissan and it always used Valvoline and never had any issues, even with my slightly careless OCI's at times (sometimes let it go over 6 months with pure short trips [sometimes less than a mile] and hard driving) I know what you mean about the filter, it's the same one my Altima used, the tiny Champion 6607/Wix 1356. Are you sure it's the lifters tapping, or maybe it's the timing chain? I know on my old Altima the timing chain tensioner sometimes made strange noises. And I've heard of others having the chain itself make noises.

My Villager uses the same filter. The Wix 51568 would seem to be a possible replacement.

You can see that it has a slightly larger diameter. If there are no interference problems it should work. I have not gotten my hands on one to try yet. Anyone else?
