I have a 2004 Infiniti G35 with 63K. I am only driving it once in 3 weeks, 50 miles each way (morning, then evening). So works out to 100 miles once in 3 weeks; about 1.8K a year. This is almost all freeway (up to 85 mph, some stop-go traffic). Full throttle maybe once per trip.
This is in Los Angeles, so it never gets to freezing point.
The manual calls for 7.5K/6month OCI with 5w30 conventional. I am currently using Shell Rotella T Syn 5w40. I know that syn is probably an overkill but got a stash I need to use: Pennzoil Platinum 5w30, Valvoline Synpower 5w40...
I know that I should change based on time, not mileage. But how frequently? Since I don't do short trips, the temps don't go low and the humidity is low, perhaps I can go pretty long on each change. Thoughts?

2 years wouldn't be out of the question at all with that scenario. Seriously.

However, you probably won't be comfortable with anything longer than a year, so go with a year.

Just use a good filter.

I'd run a fill at least two years... With a used oil analysis could likely go longer...

This is very easy on the oil. You live in a relatively dry place, with typically 0% condensation inside your parked engine and every time you drive (even if every 21 days) you actually get the oil good and hot. 1 year oil changes.

P.S. The filter I use is an oversized Bosch Distance Plus, so shouldn't be any issues.
Thank you for the responses; I will probably do aprox. 2-year OCIs.

But I would switch to a 5w30. I don't think there is any benefit in running 5w-40 in this engine.

It is a great use profile. My mother had the same long use, with continuous 5-block, never up to temperature cycles inbetween.

We found that with a good syn oil, we could use the non-severe interval in this otherwise severe use.

Id run syn at the 7.5k/6mo if youre in waranty, and if out, Id extend to 1 year or even 2 years with UOA to verify.

no sweat.

Almost all manufacturers advise OCI's no longer than a year, but I doubt you would have issues past that. I would also doubt the type of oil would matter and using up a stash is a good thing.
