Obviously it can work. Wow, that's lot of stuff off of one router. Guess I got lucky and bought a good one. In fact, I think it was one of the brethren on here that suggested it because I had no idea what to get, so many to chose from. Noon until 0300? What do you do? That's some long hours. Do you have access to this forum during those times or are you out of pocket?

Remember with those hours it incls a LONG commute
(ie why my 2005 has 185k on it) but still long hours so I can get 3 days off each week (and one less day to commute
)

I've got Sprint "Broadband"
which is the biggest sorry excuse (but I'm not bitter) for internet access in the work vehicle. It works sometimes okay (remember I'm NOT bitter) when filling out reports and sending them home to "mother" but saying it stinks would be nice.
So not too much access out in the field. Most of the time if I'm on here during work I take my netbook and its either McDonald's or an Hotels wi-fi that I grab. 1000% improvement over the Sprint...
The wi-fi can handle tons more than what I'm doing. Its a excellent unit and I never touch it or have to reboot it. Since its also our landline its on 24/7 all the time.

I hear you...you work for the State and I work for Uncle Sam. I got about a 100 mile commute round trip everyday. I know how fast those miles add up....ask my wife, that's her Accord we sold and got her in the 10 CRV. We got the CRV in December 09, and now she just turned 20K on it...YIKES. She had a TON of doctor appointments when going through breast cancer and radiation treatment in OKC. We live about 40 miles SW of OKC. Let me get to the house and get back inside the software and try to make some sense out of it. Have learned a LOT from you and others on this subject. Yes, I'd like it to be secured, but when I can't get everybody up and running, it's just not worth the aggrevation.

Yes, you can tell the router to allow ONLY access to the MAC addresses and that is VERY secure. No one else could get in. Now with that said, I'd STILL change your router password so it can not be hacked.

It is actually quite possible to spoof a MAC address. And not overly difficult either.
Best rule of thumb in my experience is to use the highest level of encryption possible with STRONG passwords. Which you've already suggested.
If you want to be really anal, adjust your wireless power output (which may require 3rd party firmware) so that your signal ONLY covers the area you need it to function in.

OK, when I get to the admin tab on the routers software, and get to the changing the password, it's like umpteen characters long and blocked out. Is this where I'd change it or reset it?? I mean right now, I simply type in the word "admin" once I call up the IP address and it gets me in. So, is this where I'd change all that stuff? I'd sure hate to that and mess it all up.
Well, there are two types of passwords, one to log into the router and one to log into the network. I don't know which one you're modifying, but it should be rather obvious once you're in there.

Okay that is where you put in your password. So when you enter the 192.168.1.1 and the admin. Then select the Administration tab, make up your passsword (like BiLliNuTah)
something that you can use with mixed upper and lower case. (mix in a few numbers and that is what strong passwords are all about!) Enter it again then save and you've taken care of the ability to get into the router and hack it.. (for most part. I'm sure we will find out that something can be spoofed)
