Some time ago, my brother the computer guy in CA decided to teach himself to repair laptop computers. After some research, he decided to to go with Dell. He has a couple now for himself, gave one to my other brother(they both use the small Latitude e34?00), & I think a couple more of his are in use in CA. He just got through with one for me, & it arrived today- I love it!It's a Dell E4300, dual core, 4GB RAM, with a new battery, running Windows Vista Business. Not the latest fastest gee whiz, but light years ahead of my 10+ yr old single core slug.

Learning my way around it now, got the battery down from full charge to about 32%. He even included a 90W charger & a neat backpack/laptop case from Harbor Freight.

Thanks Bro!

The E4300 is actually a good little laptop -- quite resilient. We used to give those to executives at my previous job.

x2 - same here. They seem to hold up quite well to the abuse dished out by our executives who travel Internationally almost daily.

As an aside, I prefer those slightly older Dells to the new ones. We have E6220s now and I loathe the stupid curvy edges and rubberized coatings. Makes a $1600 laptop look cheap.

It is nice to have something proven reliable. That way the bugs have all been worked out.

No reason to get the high-zoot top of the line speedster unless you really have a need for the performance.

Completely agree. the previous E-series models were a slick and pleasant business design, those 20's look and feel cheap.

+1 to adding an SSD and Windows 7, I prefer Win8 for SSD's, even better.

E6400 are fantastic deals. Bought one last month for a customer, Win7, 4GB, backlit keyboard works great. Solid machine for around $250-$275 at NewEgg.

I agree about the rubber coatings; hard to clean and always feels gummy to me. The latest ones that we received though do not have the rubber coating (perhaps in time for the new models which are soon to be released).

I have a few core2duo based laptops and desktops at home and work and feel no need to upgrade to anything newer. I'm no gamer anymore. M$ pulls a plug on XP soon, though.
