Hello bitog, I need help with my exterior lighting. My backyard is very dark and my single light out there currently is not enough. I have an exterior outlet by the backyard door and am wondering if I could attach a flood light off the deck and run a wire to the outlet and add a switch to it?

Another option (not sure if its possible), can I splice into the wiring on the one single exterior light and use that to wire up another light, the current bulb is a LED so the new one would also be led. This would help solve the switch issue since the current light has an interior switch already.

Thank you

I'm no electrician but leaving something plugged into an outside outlet that is subject to rain seems a bit iffy to me.
If there is the possibility to add on to the existing wiring for another socket that sounds like the way to go.

You should be able to splice out of the existing light for another light, difficulty depends on where you want the new light to be.

How much light are you looking to get? How large of an area? Is there decent amount of daylight?

I ask because I had a similar situation (probably a much smaller area) where I put up some fairly inexpensive solar LED lights. They have a built in motion sensor and a dual brightness capability, so with no motion, they are a dim light, and with motion, they light up to full brightness for a certain amount of time. I've had them 2 years now and they (somewhat surprisingly) are still working great. If there's a fence, you can line up a few of them along the fence for more light.
