I have a Briggs Stratton 10hp OHV 5500 generator. The screw vibrated loose on the governor shaft where it comes out of the top of the motor when I went to reattach the arm, the clip broke and the shaft went down in the brass sleeve. I called around to find out how much it would be to get fixed and was told to scrap it, it would cheaper to buy another generator. I am about sick of this disposabel society we live in, but thats another gripe. Anyway, I can see the top of the shaft, in the brass bushing, but cant get hold of it. I dont know enough about these engines, but is that all the further it can go in, because I could easily get a drill on it, drill it, tap it and pull it up. Magnets, glue and grinding needle nose pliers down isnt working and it seems like a shame to scrap it and use it for parts. Any info on what is in there, worse comes to worse, I ll tear it apart and explore, I cant see how they would get $250 labor in tearing off the backhalf, seems like a rip off to me. Any Idea's?
