Hi ! I am trying to find a "shorty" version of the MANN 719/5 oil filter for a VW 2.5. This motor is in a VW race car and we are experiencing clearance issues with the radiator and fan shroud that we need to use. Is there anyone who knows who to "convert" the same filter into a shorter version ? It doesn't have to be a MANN brand filter, anything that works in this application is fine. Here a Fram Titanium that crosses over to the Mann, and it shows the dimensions and thread size. Go from there to find a shorter version with the nearly the same base & gasket size and 3/4-16 threads.

This a 1996 VW GTI purpose built race car that has a 2.5 liter 5 cylinder...It was a tight fit but the install is clean and professional. The clearance for the oil filter is extremely tight and we have to remove the radiator to change the filter...There has to be a shorty equivalent to a MANN W719/5 somewhere ?
Is the engine out of a 1996 VW GTI, or something else? If not, what was the engine in originally?

Not always. I gave some info earlier that with some effort on your part could match up a filter with the same base and base gasket size and find one that's fits that bill but is shorter. Or just put a remote filter mount on the car and you'll have all kinds of filters to choose from. But if you'd post exactly what year and model car this engine was in originally it might help the hunt.

I have been researching this. The 3614 should fit ok but it has a much lower bypass pressure than the Mann # he posted.
