need help finding compatible bigger oil filter

Normally a purolator PL14459, WIX 51334, FRAM XG9688 is there any bigger filters that will cross with this im looking for somethig with better flow and more capacity.
 
Never have been able to figure out the bigger filter obsession. The engine was designed for the filter that came from the factory. Filter size affects oil pressure. A filter bigger than stock can (not always) lower oil pressure.
 
Not an expert, but I would think going oversize would minimize spikes and would be a good thing in that aspect.

I put 400 K on a Volvo using PH 8 filters, about TWICE the size pf the OEM PH 16. Apparently it didn't hurt it much.

I sometimes just go to the store, open the boxes and find filters with the same gasket diameter. I write these filter numbers down. I will then use the WIX filter lookup to determine if they have the same thread and verify that the gasket size looks in reasonable limits. I also check the PSI rating. By this method, I found that my Beast, which will take the Fram PH3614, will also take the PH3600 and PH8A. It will therefore take the Mobil M1-101 and also in theory a WIX series 51773 filter, but it is unknown if this last one is short enough to clear the fan assembly. You have to check that part out too. Some filters are made short because space is tight in the engine compartment. If you have a motor mount close to the filter, be careful. I have run a Fram PH8A (much bigger) on my car. The car will therefore take a WIX 51515, and it will also take the Purolator Pure One PL 20195 which is the size of the bigger PH3600 by Fram. It will take the Mobil filters that match the thread size too, which is 3/4-16. I do not think a bigger filter affects pressure all that much once it is full of oil. I like this because on my car the bigger filters mean more oil, it gives more surface to cool the oil in summer, and more media.

Toyota increased the filter size on their Camry I4 from 2000 to 2001 (14476 to 14477) I'd go to a vendor, pick up a stock filter and compare it to other numbers for baseplate size.

The 400 will fit that motor as well.

By that logic, the 1999-2002 GM 5.3L LM7 engine was designed around the PF59 oil filter, so you should ONLY use the PF59 on that engine... whoops, due to parts consolidation, GM discontinued the PF59 so you have to use the shorter PF46.
Fortunately, aftermarket suppliers such as Wix, Purolator, M1, and K&N have continued to manufacture their PF59 equivalents, and my 2003 LM7 has been happily running on 'oversized' PF59 equivalents for many miles.

Oversized filters are great... they're easier to grab ahold of when its time to change the oil, and they have more media so they have a larger contaminant holding capacity as well. And they're the same price as their smaller counterparts. Easy choice for me.

That's fun and all but usually the thread diameter is stamped into the baseplate. Either overtly or with a common manufacturer code.

With 3/4, you could just bring a big bolt in to test with.

I can't understand this obsession either. Yes, a bigger filter might flow better if the pump was bigger as well, but will pass more dirt through the engine since it will take longer to fill the additional crevices in the fiber.
 
If you talk with people who worked in filter manufacturing they will observe that car makers have been pressing them for smaller, lighter filters year after year, and NOT because they were "better".

I'll predicate my two pennies of advice on the fact that you're probably running at or less than OEM OCIs ... If you are into e-x-t-e-n-d-e-d OCIs, then my comments would not apply here.

I presume this is a "want", because I doubt you have a "need" for a larger filter ...

First of all, do you have any conclusive proof that the current spec'd filter is somehow failing to provide the required cleaning aspect to your engine? Do you have any current standard of reference whereas your current OEM filter design is insufficient in flow and capacity? If you were to upsize to a larger filter, do you have any baseline measurements that would be able to prove beyond a doubt that a flow/capacity increase would equate to "better" protection? Do you have used oil analysis and PCs, standardized with known sigma variance, to show how much change (if any) would be attriubted to the filter versus other inputs?

Please know that, as a generalization, OEM filter abilities are typically grossly over-spec'd. A "normal" filter will often flow about 2x more oil than the engine would ever hope to move about, and hold probably 2-3x more dirt than it would ever generate and ingest, in a NORMAL OCI.

Let's look at just three examples:
Wix 51348 and Wix 51516 and Wix 51515. Here's an example of small, medium, large with the same overall fitment attributes (gasket size and thread pitch). If they could fit physically, given any space considerations, they would be essentially interchangable. All three are flow rated at 7-9gpm, and all three are rated at beta 2/20=6/20. Essentially, they all perform the same, regardless of size. I would certainly agree that the larger the filter, the more holding capacity the media would have, presuming the media is of identical construction. But unless you plan to GREATLY extend your OCI, you're never going to usurp the holding capacity of even the smallest filter.

If you're just adamant about having a bigger filter, go over to the Donaldson site and use their attribute x-ref feature; you can select thread pitch and gasket size, and then browse from there.

But know this: while it may matter to your head, where you "feel" that bigger and more is "better", it likely won't matter one little iota to your engine. What you want and what your engine needs are two totally different things ...
