Take your MSF course and buy a SNELL rated helmet and other proper gear.

Snell rating doesn't mean much these days, just the DOT rating will do. (http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/gearbox/motorcycle_helmet_review/index.html)
Just get a full faced helmet that fits properly and is comfortable- one that you will want to wear every time you get on the bike. And get decent riding gear (armored jacket, pants, boots, gloves). Have fun!

what is sps? why does it seem like im suffering from this syndrome? Is it something to do with going fast. because i like fast things

Ok I'll bite...anyways I'm glad and sad at the same time that I did not start riding a motorcycle until last year..sad because I've missed out on 20 years of my life riding and glad because I'm still alive and didn't go out and buy a "Busa" when I was in my early 20's and kill myself (or whatever was a monster bike back then)

Took the MSF, have invested $$ into the proper gear and started small for my first bike...tell you what...I have made some dumb mistakes on this bike that I'm SURE would have caused a get off and probably some pain on a bigger bike...

Plenty of power to learn on and believe it or not a blast to ride...at only 300lbs you can flick that bike almost anywhere...not to mention 70 mpg AND one of the few bikes on the road that you can use 100% of the powerband legally

Later on this summer I may upgrade to the Ninja 650 but for now the 250 suits me just fine...seriously it is a hoot to ride!

250 rocks...my bud took one to 120mph....well he claims...lol
I love that bike. Your right you can flick her back and forth with little effort

great bike! Blue_Goose

I agree a 250 is plenty and leave room for error. Believe me 600cc and above is very unforgiving.

This is what my gal looks like. The pic is not my bike, just my model and color.
She has been sitting in a garage for 3 years now. Coincidentally my daughter is 3...lol, thats why no riding. She has 1700 miles on her. I think a 600 is fine. Its plenty of speed that you will ever need. Sad news...years of sitting and few starts have left her gummed up. So this summer got to pull the injectors, tank, fuel pump and get them all cleaned and going

for lettin her sit, but nice lookin bike anyway. Tip: tape a pic of your 3yo sweety on the speedo, it helps keeps thing in perspective when your feeling cocky on the bike.

I Know....I feel ashamed. I went out 2 weeks ago and when the fuel pump primed then stopped, I knew something was up. If I lived on the first floor I would have rolled her into the living room a long time ago for repairs.

I hear ya.... No speeding for me. I have done my share and almost ate it in high speeds more than a few times when I was a newbie...SO speed is my enemy....Just enjoy the ride.

The bike is nice, but very very temperamental. What can I say she is a British bike. I love it, cause I have never seen my color and only like 3 others in my area of different colors over the years.

go there. they have lots of guys with lots of experience. there is a newbie section with all the info u need.
good sport bikes for beginners:
buell blast, kawasaki ninja (ex) 250 + 500, suzuki gs 500, and even the suzuki sv650.
unless u are 200+ lbs. the ninja 250 is the perfect beginners bike. its about learning the proper technique, and the lil 250 is still as fast if not faster than any mass production car. u dont want the bike to take u for a ride, u want to ride the bike! u will also look like a fool jumping onto a 600cc supersport!

I wanted the busa before because you know the urge to buy the fastest thing possible. I do plan on twin turboing my z06 c6 shaman when i figure out how to do it

I would respond to this, but I have to pick up my new Lambo from the dealer, and it's a bit of a drive from my multi-billion dollar estate, so gotta go.
