Need help buying a bike

Kawasaki uses the "Ninja" name for a variety of bikes for marketing purposes. The EX500 Ninja and EX650 Ninja are practical, moderately powered standards not at all in the category of their hyperbikes.

But I have to admit Syntec has me scared as well.

Syntec, I've been reading some of your other posts on this board and I'm quite sure you should not be riding a motorcycle of any kind. I'm also sure you aren't the type to listen to advise.

I listen to advice! i was going to go for a Hybususa and i went down to a dirty ninja Ex650. Why do you think i should not ride a bike?

Not sure where the province of EH? is in Canada, but if it's it got some good back roads to explore I'd be on a dualsport. I've got a whole harem of different bikes and the one that gets ridden the most often is an old klr650.

No never said such....LOL...just teasing...lol
Just be safe.

Good Luck and enjoy.

Best advise I can give you is get a good helmet and body armor, esp. something that protects your knees. I had a bad knee injury going less than 15 mph on a dirtbike because I wasn't wearing knee protection. I never rode hard and I didn't think I needed the extra protection. I had just started the bike (Suzuki DR350), was going around 15 mph when it stalled. I popped the clutch out to restart and I had it in the wrong gear (too low). The rear tire locked up and threw me on the ground before I could react. This happened in 1994 and the medical bill was over 10K. Still have problems with that knee.

Sorry I was overly harsh. But to be completely frank, your posts make it sound like you are very immature. It's a good thing you are looking at an EX type bike, but there is more to it than choosing the right bike. I have a difficult time believing you have the maturity or judgment to manage risk properly on a motorcycle. I'm not your father and don't get a vote. But that's my opinion. You asked for advise and I'm giving it to you. Grow up a bit and revisit the motorcycle idea in another few years.

I'm gonna have to agree with Lorenzo, although I won't be as harsh. You want a bike that on about 1 inches of rubber puts down more power than most vehicles on the road. You drive a honda if I remember correctly. Most Honda cars don't make the power that a busa makes. Would you give your 16 year old son a c6 zo6 with a turbo kit and a 150 shot of nitrous as a first car?

I am certainly sharing the same feelings with Lorenzo and Shaman.
You are either young and don't know what you were asking for (Busa) or just messing around and yanking our chains to see who you will get on your case with these questions that my 14 year old would ask.

In either case...NO BUSA FOR YOU...

GOOD ARTICLE ON BUYING FIRST BIKE AND RIDING

I'ld have to agree with the others - you clearly know very little about bikes. Start small & work your way up over time. Take the course & then pick up something used. It should be light enough for you to be able to control as your skills start to gel. This sort of advice applies to a new rider of ANY age. The fact that you are (I think?) a younger male makes it all the more important. You may not like to hear this sort of commentary but you know how mature you really are. The use of a motorcycle by a rider not exercising the proper degree of restraint WILL GET HIM KILLED. It really is as simple as that. Do you live in a large, urban area (is: LMD)? That's a very dangerous place to learn. You see, aboard a bike, all the other vehicle drivers seem to be trying to kill you. You have to be riding your bike 'for everybody else' if you know what I mean. So you buy an expensive high-powered bike that can accelerate to high speed in the blink of an eye. You are new to the game & you will make mistakes. We all did that when new. We still do make mistakes - I ain't perfect. The thing is, I have learned over time to practice good judgment. There are times & places where you can accelerate hard for the fun of it. You will not have those skills for a long time. My point (Yes, I do have one) is that you can get yourself into enough trouble on a Honda Rebel 250, let alone a CBR 1000. Do yourself a favour - keep it small & light so you don't scare yourself half to death (or worse). When you start riding you will find that it is both the scariest time & the most fun time that you will experience on a motorcycle. It usually gets much less intense later on. So, calm down, get something used that you can afford (keep in mind the ICBC rates, licence points, etc.), do the course & take lots of good advice! Hear me? Nod & say, "Yes, oh wise one. I hear & obey."

Good.

John.

I'm not recommending he start small and work his way up, or that he take a safety class. I'm recommending that he does not attempt to ride a motorcycle at all until he matures by several years.

Many good roadracers started out in the dirt where they honed their reflexes. Learn to ride and then look at a Suzuki SV650 - you can do 0-60 that will embarass any car and go well over 100mph, plus you can get by the larger bikes when the road gets interesting. A 'Busa is a death wish for an inexperienced rider and the dealer should donate a funeral wreath with the sale. I have over 200,000 MC miles (mostly BMW) and know I'd get in over my head with many current sportbikes. Take some track courses and read Keith Code's books.
I once watched a squid take delivery on a CBR and promptly wheelie it over backwards right in front of the dealer showroom. Very embarrasing!

I wanted the busa before because you know the urge to buy the fastest thing possible. I do plan on twin turboing my z06 c6 shaman when i figure out how to do it
