Need Assistance- Alarm/Remote Start Install

I purchased a Viper 791XV alarm/remote start kit at Best Buy at a good price. A friend of mine who installed alarms and whatnot for 12 years did most of the installation, but unfortunately he could not complete it because of an issue with the remote starter. He has been out of the business for about 3 years so it's probably just some small detail in a modern system that he is not picking up on. This kind of stuff is far too complex for me to install, so these are his words:

"What wire needs to be grounded, and/or what is the sequence to initialize the remote starter and get it to work? Anyone who is familiar with this brand should know."

Maybe you need something to defeat a factory theft deterrent system? Some years ago I installed a 'bulldog' brand remote start on a 1998 Chevy K1500 I had. I had to purchase an additional kit to bypass the GM pass key theft deterrant system. Lets just say I got all too familiar with the underside of the dash. Maybe things have changed, but after knowing what you hack into, I'd never again install (or have installed) an aftermarket remote start or alarm in my daily driver.

If you hit the start button on the remote twice and it doesn't start, check the shutdown diagnostics. The hood pinswitch needs to be floating, the brake wire needs to be floating, and the neutral safty switch needs to be grounded. I can't remember the sequence to get to the shutdown diagnostics, it should be in your install manual.

Edit: it would be useful to know the make/model/year of your car if you still have problems.

Thanks I will pass that on. This is a 2003 Explorer XLT.

So far the only problem with the install is with the remote start. Everything else works fine. May just forget about the remote start altogether...
