I'm in a CNC mill and lathe class and need a project. I have full access to both types of machines and CAD/CAM software. If any of you have something you need made I can make it for just a bit more than the price of materials.

There are some limitations of the complexity of the part(s) due to the tooling I have available but I am willing to consider anything.

Tom - V8 block from a solid alum billet please!

In my business, EVERYONE needs something machined.

We used to have a Haas VF-4 in the shop, but sold a few yrs back. I probably could have pestered my former colleague to learn operation, but couldn't be bothered since I didn't think I'd pursue machining.

I used to run and repair Fadal 4020s but never did any design or programming. I am taking this class for fun, I am not planning doing this stuff full time when I grow up.

I am working with a small Milltronics VMC and lathe currently.

You could machine aluminum atv air filter adaptors. Almost every atv out there should have one.

Something like this:

They're for adapting a larger clamp on style air filter. This lets you remove your airbox lid without the filter falling out.

That's a very generous offer. I got my CNC needs covered, though. I have an idea what you may want to do. I'll send you a PM in a while.

That's not what I meant to post. One can't "do an idea." Yikes.

... an idea you may find interesting.

I don't really know statewide. Around my neck of the woods we have small shops and AFAIK they are doing ok.

The tool setup charge for a simple machining job was around $100 last time I checked, which was a few years ago.

Yep, and about $50/hr machine time.

For those who don't realize it, The cost of machined parts is seemingly reasonable because the overhead costs are spread out over a run of hundreds or thousands or parts. A one-off part is extremely expensive. I am willing to give my BITOG cronies parts at near cost because I have no overhead (thanks CSU system!) and my payment is projects with a grades.

how about a BITOG key fob?

Don't forget copyright issues!

How about a mori key fob? Make it in the form of a target and it will be a big seller. People can take potshots at it.
