Picking up my new truck in the morning. I've been using Mobil Delvac 15w40 in my '07 Cummins with the old school 5.9

I haven't had to buy oil for a diesel with the new emissions requirement so I'm not sure what to run.

The oils Amsoil carries switch over at 2007 year or newer engines.

I only know what they show for the newer engines. I'm not sure what specific differences are though.

Don't know, haven't picked it up yet.

Just realized you're the first guy that I've seen on BTOG from Everett..... I have an old 92Dodge 3/4 ton that has to do what I need with a 360 gas motor. I would love to have a diesel. I'm not partial to just Dodge either. Does the Duramax take this exhaust fluid stuff? Good luck on the truck.

I dont know about the Duramax specifically but if it needs a 40 Weight Conventional then Chevron Delo 400 LE, Mobil Delvac 1300 and Shell Rotella T are all CJ4 rated for the newer engines and are indistinguishable from each other for 20,000 mile drains in my trucks. Ive run each of them at various times depending on current contract.

Now if the Duramax requires a synthetic or 30 weight you are on your own because Ive never run either.

You'll be fine with any CJ-4 rated oil. Pick your personal brand favorite; all the major brands are fine oils for the normal OCIs. The OLM is fairly accurate, so you can just change oil in accordance with that. The Dmax is VERY easy on oil, and typically turns in great used oil analysis.

I've had great success with 10w30 HDEO in my LBZ Dmax, but any 15w40 will work as well.

Agree. Maybe one short mileage oil change, then follow the owner's manual.

I was finally able to look in the manual after I got the truck home. It does indeed need CJ-4 rated oil. Thats good, because I still have 6 gallons of Mobil Delvac that happens to be rated CJ-4.

I used the OLM on my Tahoe,so I was planning on using it in the Duramax as well.

I think I might switch to Rotella after the Delvac is gone. I have Rotella on hand for my Yamaha dirt bikes.

Either of those will be fine, along with a host of other good brand names that are commonly recognized.

If you're going to OCI at the OEM intervals, then just choose any CJ-4 lube that you like. You can be brand loyal, or you can bounce around with the sales.

Moving from brand to brand will not give you as consistent UOA results, but that's a moot point for most people anyway. The engine, however, will not typically know or care of the difference.

Any CJ-4 oil is going to work great in your Duramax. It's a fantastic engine and you will love it. I run mostly Rotella 15w40 or Mobil Delvac 1300 in my '07 LBZ Duramax.

mobil is the factory fill.seen dmax's go hundreds of thousands on delo with no issue's.regardless of all the hype promos and such,in my kw's for lowboys and dodge hotshot trucks I've tried mobil quite a bit and never have seen as good of test result onit as the delo, the premium blue was right in there.
