I want to install a coolant level sensor in my boat's cooling system. I would like some advice on how the sensor actually works. I have a sensor, which is for mazda truck. It looks like a plastic plug with a little metal bar through the centre of the plug. A single wire then is connected at the outside end of the metal bar. I just wonder if it works this way:
The wire is connected to an alarm, the alarm is connected to the battery positive. When the coolant level is right, the sensor is under coolant level and the electricity get through the coolant to the ground wire to the battery negative. Circuit close and the alarm is off.
When the sensor get above coolant level, circuit open and the alarm sound.
Does it sound right to you? If it doesn't, would you please give me some more advice on how to design. Thanks a lot
