My intention is not to ask another ARX question that has been answered a thousand times. I have run Auto-RX in 3 other cars of mine as well as a couple of friends' and am pretty familiar with the instructions and the history of instructions. I have searched but don't think I have seen a similar question but forgive me if rehashing.
Current car in question is my Winter Only 1994 Mazda MX-3. I bought it a year ago and as 12 year old car with 140,000 miles figured it should need some cleaning. I immediately changed the oil and added Auto-RX. The CEL light was on and the code thrown was the Crank Position sensor. As a result it affected driveability and seemed to be running rich but by the time I got the part it was just too danged cold and dark in my cramped unheated garage to replace the part, so I waited until I put the car away for the summer.
The result is that I ran my first clean, first rinse and second clean Auto-Rx cycle with the car apparently running rich due to the CPS malfunction.
I am now on the second ARX rinse with the CPS replaced. All OCIs run with 5w30 conventional (Pennzoil, Castrol, Quaker State - whatever was on sale). Car is running smoother especially in low gears at low rpms. Gas mileage is up. My assumption all along has been that absent a signal from the CPS the computer was guessing a little rich on fuel just to be safe.
My question. Do you think I need to run a third Auto-RX clean and rinse cycle after my current rinse is complete? eg would the effectiveness of the earlier ARX be compromised by the effect of the faulty CPS? Fuel dilution? Increased carbon?
I don't think there is a definitive answer in the Auto-RX bible. Just looking for thoughts/experiences
If it matters, I have FP3000 on order, run FP60 every tank and added it as a fuel stabilizer over the summer, and am running a tank with Gumout Regane right now as a once a year PEA treatment.
