agree 100% I hope my reply wasnt taken negatively It needed a few smilies or something.
I might have been tempted to go another hundred or 2 for an i5 or i7 but for many tasks the 4c i3-14100 with strong single core performance would be similar.

For example my current rig with an i7-13700k is basically 0% to 300% faster usually closer to the 0% faster for basic tasks.

Your boss has read this and is now ordering you an i7 and expects 300% increase in productivity

I tried to semi-seriously convince my sister-in-law to get an Alienware laptop as her work computer, lol----it has a powerful enough RTX card to overlay your face staring into the camera of a Zoom call even if you are doing other things in real life.

Uses are only internet, a few documents. Maybe add an external cd drive. 1TB drive sound reasonable? Amazon reviews are allover the place, units with cheap components, some units new but appear used etc.

i'll probably want a new monitor as well. Lenvo has this one, direct.

My office has 8 of the refurb dells indicated previously. Allwork well, perfect unless you are mining coin or into gaming. Save some money for a better monitor.

It's not for everyone, an Apple device, I get it but if you ever want to walk on the wild side ... for $600 I doubt anything will match its speed and reliability. Heck we paid roughly 8 or $900 years back. It is true, these new lower priced units are geared more towards non business users such as home computers. But it will do everything you want, reliably and fast. IF and only If you want to learn a while new system. Yeah, A whole new universe and not saying its for everyone who wishes to stay with Windows...

Im just shocked myself at the low price, now it's 4th generation chip, when the first generation already blew everyone away.
Wife has the M1 been rock solid for years now. I have an older intel chip i5, same deal, never an issue since I bought it, more than half a decade ago? I lost track but thinking for fun at this low price, maybe next year. A simple search will find a whole bunch of good prices. Even if you pick up an M3
